The Magnificent KOTOBUKI video 1

Alternate Title

Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai
荒野のコトブキ飛行隊

Synopsis

In a desolate expanse of wasteland, people survive by cooperating and trading goods and supplies. The Kotobuki Squadron make a living as bodyguards for hire. Led by a strict yet beautiful squad leader, an unreliable commanding officer, and a truly skilled maintenance chief, the squadron’s lively bunch of female pilots take to the skies to battle air pirates as the engines of their Hayabusa fighters ring out through the wide blue yonder.

Background

Kotobuki - The Wasteland Squadron is an original anime project from director Tsutomu Mizushima and scriptwriter Michiko Yokote. The anime is being produced by Digital Frontier with GEMBA producing the animations, which will be a hybrid of 2D and 3D. Other staff include Hiroyuki Kanbe as assistant director, with Shou Sugai adapting Hidari’s original character designs for animation, Toko Nakamura as chief animation director, Shigeyuki Ninomiya credited as military supervisor, and Shiroh Hamaguchi in charge of music. The opening theme song will be "Sora no Ne" by ZAQ and the ending theme song will be "Tsubasa o Motsu Monotachi" by the six main cast members. The anime is set to premiere in Japan in January 2019.

The project is also spawning an air combat simulation RPG smartphone game titled Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai - Ozora no Take Off Girls! (Kotobuki - The Wasteland Squadron: Take Off Girls of the Sky!) that will launch in winter 2019 for iOS and Android.
