Mortal Kombat is an American media franchise that is centered around a series of fighting video games. The games were originally developed by the developer Midway Games beginning in 1992. Since then there have been both sequels and spin-offs released for the game, as well as card games and a comic book series. The series is particularly famous for its highly graphic scenes of violence. The most notable of these being its Fatalities, or finishing moves for the winner of the fight. Here are some of the character figures available online for purchase now: Mortal Kombat Goro 1/12 Scale Action Figure, Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat Shao Kahn, and Pop!Games Mortal Kombat Complete Set.

Mortal Kombat Series Story

The story of Mortal Kombat takes place in a fictional universe that contains eighteen different realms. According to some of the backstories of the characters in the game, the realms were created by the Elder Gods. The playable characters of the series all live within the different realms in the series, and all of them seek power. In order for someone of one realm to be able to conquer the other, they would have to defeat the greatest warriors of that realm. The Elder Gods decreed that they must fight in ten consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments in order to achieve this. In the first game, seven different warriors are participating in the tournament. The prize for this tournament is the continued freedom of their realms, which are under threat of takeover by the Outworld.

Mortal Kombat Series Development

The first Mortal Kombat game was created by Midway Games and released in 1992. Since then, it has inspired several different sequels and spin-offs, as well as other different forms of media with the same name. This American media franchise mostly revolves around one-on-one fighting matches between players or between players and AI. The series has quite a reputation as being very violent. Because of this, it is partially responsible for the creation of the ESRB video game rating system that is still used to this day. After a time, Midway Games, unfortunately, went bankrupt and was acquired by Warner Bros. Entertainment. It was then turned into Nether Realm studios, which continued to create more Mortal Kombat games. The most recent installment of this franchise is Mortal Kombat 11, which was released in 2019.
