OtapediaList of Evangelion Movie Characters

There are several characters that are significantly different from their counterparts in *Neon Genesis Evangelion or are unique to the Evangelion Rebuild movies. The following list is an example of said characters:

Mari Illustrious Makinami

Mari Illustrious Makinami: (Voiced by Maaya Sakamoto (JPN) and Trina Nishimura (ENG)) Mari is an Evangelion pilot around the same age as Shinji. She has reddish-brown hair that is pulled into twin-tails. She also wears glasses with red trim. Describing her as an Eva fanatic may be accurate, as she knows a great deal about their inner workings - so much so that she can activate a mode that some members of NERV didn’t even know existed. When she arrives in Japan, she quite literally crashes into Shinji as she comes parachuting down from the sky. She notes that he smells like LCL. From that point on, she refers to Shinji as a “puppy”. Although most pilots often resent the act of piloting an Evangelion unit, Mari seems to derive joy from it. She often provides long-range support for Asuka in various missions.

Sakura Suzuhara

Sakura Suzuhara: (Voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro (JPN) and Felecia Angelle (ENG)) Toji’s younger sister. While she is mentioned in the original series, she is never named or shown on screen. She is similarly injured in an Angel battle, but is shown briefly for the first time in Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. In the Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, she is the first person to greet Shinji after he wakes up for the first time in 14 years.

Koji Takao

Koji Takao: (Voiced by Akio Otsuka (JPN) and Greg Dulcie (ENG)) A bald, bearded man that acts as the engineer for the AAA Wunder. He thinks that, though her strategies may be incredibly risky and all but impossible, Misato is quite an interesting captain.

Sumire Nagara

Sumire Nagara: (Voiced by Sayaka Ohara (JPN) and Krishna Smitha (ENG)) She is given the role of maneuvering the AAA Wunder. She is likely fairly inexperienced, as when Misato orders for the ship to fly, Sumire mentions that she has little faith in her skills.

Hideki Tama

Hideki Tama: (Voiced by Anri Katsu (JPN) and Aaron Roberts (ENG)) A reserved, but serious man in charge of engineering.

Midori Kitakami

Midori Kitakami: (Voiced by Mariya Ise (JPN) and Tia Ballard) A woman with pink hair that is in charge of monitoring equipment.

Misato Katsuragi

Misato Katsuragi: (Voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi (JPN) and Allison Keith (ENG)): Misato is introduced as Lieutenant Colonel rather than Captain in 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. In 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, she becomes the Captain of WILLE’s ship, the AAA Wunder. The fun-loving and goofy side of her personality is gone, leaving her as an incredibly serious and somber character. This said, she still has a soft spot for Shinji, as she had the opportunity to kill him and prevent the Fourth Impact from happening, but she couldn’t bring herself to pull the trigger to Shinji’s DSS choker when she had the chance.

Ritsuko Akagi

Ritsuko Akagi: (Voiced by Yuriko Yamaguchi (JPN) and Colleen Clinkenbeard): Her role in the first two Rebuild movies is essentially the same as in Neon Genesis Evangelion, but in 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo), she is given the title of Vice-Captain of the AAA Wunder. Her hair is also cut very short when compared to the first two movies.

Asuka Langley Shikinami

Asuka Langley Shikinami: Her character is very similar to that of her original counterpart, although her family name is changed from Soryu to Shikinami. She has also lost her interest in Ryoji Kaji and no longer dislikes dolls. After 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, she has an eyepatch covering her left eye that can be seen glowing at times. Also, despite 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo taking place 14 years after the previous movie, Asuka seems nearly unaged. She says that it is because of the “curse of Eva”, but what this refers to is unclear.

Kaworu Nagisa

Kaworu Nagisa: (Voiced by Akira Ishida (JPN) and Jerry Jewell (ENG) While Kaworu in Neon Genesis Evangelion only showed up for a single episode, Kaworu is introduced at the end of 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. This gives him a larger role throughout the Rebuild series. At the end of 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, Kaworu throws the Spear of Cassius at the Awakened Eva-01, preventing the full catastrophe of the Third Impact from taking place. His most significant role, however, takes place in 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, where he becomes the sole person that Shinji trusts. Kaworu even takes the DSS choker off of Shinji and puts it on his own neck, which eventually results in his death as the Fourth Impact begins.

Rei Ayanami

Rei’s character in the new Rebuild movies is more mysterious than the original anime. In Rebuild 3.0 she is a part of the New NERV organization and her once white plugsuit is black. She has no traits or recollections of the previous version of Rei in the anime series or movies. The Evangelion fan base has dubbed her "Rei Q" or "Kuronami" and the importance of her character is still unknown.
