Synopsis
The second season of Senran Kagura, Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-hen* follows a group of skilled young shinobi as they go about their days in the shadows hunting and killing, employed by politicians and influential corporations. Even among these shinobi are those who are evil and those who are good, but will the virtuous among them be able to stand strong against those who lurk in the shadows?
Background
First released as a video game by Marvelous in 2011, Senran Kagura is a fighting series focused on teams of shinobi that went on to be adapted into both manga and anime. The first anime adaptation aired from Jan. 6, 2013 through March 24, 2013 and was followed by an OVA on March 24, 2015.
A follow-up second season was announced in August 2017 titled Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-hen. It is directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa and written by Yukinori Kitajima with music by Noisycroak and animation produced by TNK. The series will begin airing on Oct. 13, 2018. The opening theme is “SCARLET MASTER” by Sayaka Sasaki, and the ending theme is “Junsei Erotic” by Mia REGINA.
Characters
Yumi (Voiced by: Yumi Hara)
With an icy air, Yumi is a third-year student and the leader of Gessen Girls’ Academy. Her fighting style is dance-inspired, and although she has a cold air, she truly loves her teammates.
Murakumo (Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto)
A third-year student at Gessen Girls’ Academy who wears an intimidating ogre mask. She’s extremely self-conscious and uses an incredible spear and giant cleaver as her primary weapons.
Yozakura (Voiced by: Kaori Ishihara)
A second-year student at Gessen Girls’ Academy who is the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. As a result, she’s extremely skilled when it comes to disciplining others and holds herself to high standards.
Shiki (Voiced by: Ayano Yamamoto)
Known for her usage of gyaru language, Shiki is a first-year student at Gessen Girls’ Academy. She’s skilled as a shinobi, but she still misses her past life of being wealthy and carefree. She wields an impressive scythe.
Minori (Voiced by: Hiromi Igarashi)
Playful and sweet, Minori is a first-year student at Gessen Girls’ Academy with a warm and childish heart that wins others over with ease. She has strong morals and is elite within her class.
Asuka (Voiced by: Hitomi Harada)
Despite being a bit clumsy, Asuka is a capable shinobi and a strong student at Hanzo Academy where she works hard to keep up with Katsuragi and Ikaruga.
Ikaruga (Voiced by: Asami Imai)
Despite her reclusive nature, Ikaruga has slowly warmed up to her classmates at Hanzo Academy (and in particular with Katsuragi, although the two butted heads at first).
Katsuragi (Voiced by: Yu Kobayashi)
Carrying a dark past on her shoulders, Katsuragi is working hard to become a strong shinobi at Hanzo Academy where she trains alongside Ikaruga.
Yagyu (Voiced by: Kaori Mizuhashi)
After the loss of her younger sister Nozomi, Yagyu has difficulty opening up to others until she arrives at Hanzo Academy where she meets Hibari who resembles Nozomi. She has slowly opened up to her classmates.
Hibari (Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi)
Hibari is a shinobi at Hanzo Academy and despite average beginnings and lacking confidence, she has grown into a strong shinobi.
Miyabi (Voiced by: Hiromi Hirata)
A third-year student at Hebijo Clandestine Girls’ Academy, Miyabi was an elite when she first entered the academy. An accident during a mission resulted in her losing her memories and abilities, though, and she has since worked towards reconstructing Hebijo.
Murasaki (Voiced by: Sayuri Yahagi)
Dark and mysterious, Murasaki is one of the elite students at Hebijo Academy despite not even attending classes. She is a truant who prefers to stay in her room with her teddy bear, Bebe-tan.
Imu (Voiced by: Chiwa Saito)
A third-year student at Heijo Clandestine Girls’ Academy, Imu is Miyabi’s best friend. She was hospitalized in the same incident as Miyabi, and she retired from being a shinobi afterwards to dedicate herself to helping her friend.
Ryobi (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
A first-year student at Hebijo Academy, Ryobi is the younger twin of Ryona. The two transferred from Gessen Girls’ Academy, and she uses a sniper rifle with an axe head modification for combat.
Ryona (Voiced by: MAKO.)
The older twin sister of Ryobi, Ryona is a first-year student at Hebijo Academy. She’s free-spirited and confident, using dancing and ice skating in her combat to move smoothly.
Homura (Voiced by: Eri Kitamura)
Initially a good-hearted young shinobi, Homura was twisted after being manipulated and betrayed by her middle school teacher. Disowned by her family, she pursued Hebijo Academy where she became one of the elite students.
Yomi (Voiced by: Ai Kayano)
Having grown up poor, Yomi detests those who live in comfort. She is a member of Homura’s Crimson Squad of former Hebijo shinobi.
Hikage (Voiced by: Ryoko Shiraishi)
Raised in an orphanage, Hikage has difficulty understanding and expressing emotions. She eventually fled the orphanage and joined a gang until she was ultimately recruited into the Hebijo Academy elite class.
Mirai (Voiced by: Saori Goto)
Unable to trust others, Mirai suffered cruel bullying as a young girl and had difficulty making friends until she managed to connect with others at Hebijo Academy where she joined the elite class.
Haruka (Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi)
Loved intensely by her mother, Haruka grew up with strong contempt towards her father who had an endless string of affairs. She was taught puppetry by Suzune and used this to force her father to expose himself which led to her being enrolled into the elite class at Hebijo Academy.
Kagura (Voiced by: Yuki Matsuoka)
An extremely powerful and eternal being who is periodically reincarnated in order to eradicate yoma. She relies on her guardian Naraku for protection as she is unable to defend herself.
Naraku (Voiced by: Yuuko Kaida)
A member of he Goshin Clan, Naraku is responsible for helping the reawakened Kagua on her quest to eradicate yoma. She is a priestess and the guardian of the Reincarnation Sphere.
Renka (Voiced by: Minami Tsuda)
The oldest of three sisters (herself, Hanabi, and Kafuru), Renka is a shinobi among the Overseers of the Festival.
Hanabi (Voiced by: Sora Tokui)
The middle child of three sisters (the others being Renka and Kafuru), Hanabi is bright and cheerful with incredible energy and a straightforward way of speaking.
Kafuru (Voiced by: Shiori Izawa)
The youngest of three sisters (the others being Renka and Hanabi), Kafuru is intelligent, argumentative, and quick to violence. She can also be quite violent.
Fubuki (Voiced by: Kana Asumi)
Dreamy and mysterious, Fubuki is a member of the Shinobi Masters.
Gekkou (Voiced by: Riko Kohara)
Gekkou is a second-year student at Gessen Girls’ Academy and a member of the Shinobi Masters.
Senko (Voiced by: Akane Fujita)
Senko is the third member of the Shinobi Masters and a second-year student at Gessen Girls’ Academy.
