OtapediaOasis - BE@RBRICK

Prior to its breakup in 2009, Oasis was one of the most popular and influential British rock bands of the 1990s and 2000s. Like many other popular musicians and musical groups, Medicom Toy eventually sought out a collaboration with the band, eventually resulting in the creation of several BE@BRICK figures throughout the years. Some of the most popular figures created through this collaboration include the “BE@RBRICK Oasis Black Rubber Coating 100% & 400% Set” and the “BE@RBRICK Oasis White Chrome 100% and 400% Set”.

Oasis x BE@RBRICK Collaboration Background

The collaboration between the band Oasis and BE@RBRICK first officially started in April 2008 with the release of a three-piece set of 100% BE@RBRICK figures with the band’s logo on it. In 2020, over a decade later, two additional designs that included Oasis’ logo would be produced as well, bringing the current total of unique BE@RBRICK designs to five.

Collaboration Planning and Launch

The first announcement of the Oasis x BE@RBRICK collaboration happened in December 2007, where it was revealed that three BE@RBRICK figures would be sold as a set that was planned to release in April 2008. This set also included Japan Allround Music and was created in honor of the band’s achievements throughout the years. Two of the three figures in the set have a design that is inspired by the Union Jack, while the third is simply colored baby blue. In December 2020, however, two other figures would get their own release as well. These figures were sold as a 100% and 400% set, though 1000% versions were produced as well.

BE@RBRICK Oasis Black Rubber Coating 100% & 400% Set

This set includes two figures that feature a simple black design and the band’s logo displayed on each figure’s chest. Although the figures are almost completely black, they are coated in a layer of rubber, a rather unusual characteristic for BE@RBRICK figures. Despite the simple color and unique material, the pair of figures still look and act like any other BE@RBRICK figure, like the classic bear-shaped head, big round belly, and articulated limbs. Although they share the same design, this set includes a 100% and 400% figure, which stand at approximately 2.8 inches and 11 inches respectively.

BE@RBRICK Oasis White Chrome 100% & 400% Set

This set of two figures makes use of a simple color palette that also happens to pair very nicely with the black rubber set mentioned previously. Instead of being mainly black and accented with white, this set is the inverse. Aside from the color difference, this particular set also lacks the rubber coating that the black set. That said, these two sets manage to complement each other perfectly.

Oasis Background

Oasis is a rock and British pop band that was officially formed in 1991. Although the members in the band changed from time to time throughout its nearly two-decade career, lead vocalist Liam Gallagher and lead guitarist Noel Gallagher made up the main core of the band at all times. In 1993, Oasis would sign with the record label Creation Records and release their first album, Definitely Maybe the following year. The success of the album eventually allowed them to tour around the world and become one of the most popular British rock bands in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Oasis Background: History

Before the Oasis’ first performance in August 1991, the band consisted of Paul McGuigan (bassist), Paul Arthurs (guitarist), Tony McCarroll (drummer), and Chris Hutton (vocalist) and planned on being called “The Rain”. After some disagreements about Hutton’s performance as their vocalist, Liam Gallagher was brought on to audition. Gallagher’s older brother, Noel, originally went to see Oasis’ first performance but was rather disappointed, leading him to ask to join the band as its lead songwriter.

Following a year of domestic touring, the co-owner of Creation Records, Alan McGee, found the band and offered a chance at a record deal. Their debut album, Definitely Maybe, was released on August 29th, 1994, and rose to the number one spot of UK sales within a week. This jumpstarted Oasis’ career and quickly led to the band touring around the world.

Oasis Background: Career Highlights

From the band’s formation in 1991 to its fall from popularity and eventual disbandment in 2009, Oasis managed to collect a wide range of awards and other accomplishments. Some examples include the British Breakthrough Act in 1995, the British Album of the Year for their 1996 album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and the Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2007. Several of their individual songs like “Wonderwall”, “Live Forever”, and “The Importance of Being Idle” have also gone on to win awards as well.
