Re: Zero kara hajimeru isekai seikatsu: Metia

Summary

Metia (ミーティア), or Meteor, is the term for any utensil allowing the use of magic to those whose Gates (think chakras in yoga) are non-functional for some reason. The form and usage of Metia vary greatly. Using Metia requires no prior training or a magic influx, being powered by its own magic generator as opposed to the user's mana. The rarer magic generator is a mana stone. The majority of Metia have been created by the most skilled craftspeople of the world.

Subaru's cellphone counted as a Metia during his trade with Rom, although it might have had nothing to do with magic.

Listed here are the Metia that appear in the series, in alphabetic order.

Metia

Beast Protection Bracelet

This Metia allows its wearer to assume a beastly appearance and by virtue of that fact become stronger with the powerful surge of mana, while at the same time losing nearly all their capacity to reason. As the name implies, it is meant to be used when in a pinch.

Conversing Mirror

A rare Metia that can connect to another Conversing Mirror to allow the both users to establish a communication session, not unlike a cellphone.

Echidna's Meteor Staff

A staff created by Echidna. This Metia spends nearly all of the user's mana to lock on the target's Gate and proceed to track them down while accumulating a charge of burning light that will subsequently and unavoidably reach the target and discharge on connection in a destructive manner.

Holy Sword Astrea

The sword of Theresia van Astrea, and afterwards Heinkel Astrea's.

Loudspeaker

A Metia set up in Priestella. As its name suggests, it is used to conduct city-wide broadcasts.

Magicant Tool

A pun on "replicant", this equipment, invented by Roswaal K Mathers, can mass-produce items.

Manastone Bracelet

The bracelet limiting the wearer's powers. Gramdart Holstoy once gave the bracelet to Reinhard van Astrea.

Recognition Obstruction Robe

This Metia allows its wearer to be concealed from any but the most powerful perception, unless the user allows it at will.

Roswaal's Black Gloves

A pair of Roswaal's hereditary gloves that could withstand the blade of a holy sword.

Scarlet Little Finger

A red ring that allows its owner to cast a curse that would make the target's limbs magically rot away and eventually lead to the target's death.

This Metia was used by the Pride Sin Archbishop Stride Vollachia on Veltol Astrea's arm, as well as on Tishua Astrea, Carol Remendis, and other people.

Slave Collar

This aptly-named Metia is magically linked to its owner's Gate (possibly paired with an artefact the owner wears), and what is magical about it is that it can make its wearer feel punishing pain whenever the owner wills it. The Slave Collar has a gemstone embedded in it, and will not function without it.

The Ten Swords of Power

These ultimately powerful swords are divided into three categories: a Magic Sword (魔剣 maken), a Holy Sword (聖剣 seiken), or a Bewitched Blade (妖刀 yōtō).

  • The Beloved Sword (愛剣 aiken), currently lost.
  • The Blight Sword (疫剣 ekiken), currently lost.
  • The Cursed Sword (呪剣 juken), currently lost.
  • The Dragon Sword (龍剣 ryūken), also known as the Reid. Said to have been given to the first Sword Saint Reid 400 years ago by the sword gods, and passed down over many generations of those under Divine Protection (a birth-time blessing) in Astrea family. This sword is capable of cutting through nearly anything and is invincible, but it only leaves its scabbard when an opponent appears whom it deems worthy.
  • The Dream Sword (夢剣 yumeken), also known as Masayume (正夢 "true dream"). In possession of Cecilus Segmunt.
  • The Fiend Sword (邪剣 jaken), also known as Murasame (村雨 "autumn rain"). In possession of Cecilus Segmunt.
  • The Spirit Sword (霊剣 reiken), currently lost.
  • The Life Sword (命剣 inochiken), currently lost.
  • The Shadow Sword (影剣 kageken), currently lost.
  • The Yang Sword (陽剣 yōken), also known as the Vollachia. A Magic Sword. When not in use, stored in thin air, only to materialise (potentially with its clones) and cut and burn through what the user wills it to. Seemingly can only be wielded by those qualified for the Vollachia throne, so few people had it: Priscilla Barielle, Vincent Vollachia, and Stride Vollachia.

Void Garb

This Metia of Capella's make would allow the user to use their hair to make manifest controllable anthropomorphic shadows and project their own senses into them, most obviously sight. However, the sensory feedback could kill the user should those shadows be destroyed. That was the reason why Reisel, who had borrowed the Void Garb from Capella, destroyed it to save his own life in the end.

White Tiger's Nest

A Metia with a rather narrow use case. It allows to capture one person (and one only, otherwise it will break) and make them pass a trial that is based off the Metia owner's magical skill and mana reserve. The target cannot escape in any other way, but they also are immortal during the trial.
