The hit sports manga Haikyu!! received critical and fan acclaim for its storytelling and character development. The second protagonist, Tobio Kageyama, subverted shonen rival tropes through his complex relationship with central character, Shoyo Hinata. This figure from Good Smile Company shows off Kageyama's off-court appearance. He wears his Karasuno team tracksuit, a simple black with white kanji of the school's name on the back. The interchangeable arm parts all maintain the pushed up sleeves of Kageyama's jacket. Additional accessories include Kageyama's blue messenger style practice bag and a carton of his favorite drink, GunGun Milk. The included volleyball base and background sheet allow fans to pose the figure outside of the Sakanoshita Store.

About Tobio Kageyama

Tobio Kageyama is a first year at Karasuno High School and the volleyball team's starting setter. He is the second protagonist of the series alongside Shoyo Hinata. His high-level skills and natural talent earned him the nickname "the genius first year setter."

About Tobio Kageyama: Background

Kageyama is blunt, arrogant, and singularly focused on volleyball. His confidence in his skills makes him a perfectionist. He holds himself and those around him to impossibly high standards and he lashes out with his frustrations. His authoritarian play style earned him the nickname "King of the Court" from his angry teammates.

Kageyama developed a complex after his middle school teammates refused to play with him during a tournament match. As a result, he tried to balance his need to win with understanding and cooperation.

About Tobio Kageyama: Abilities

Kageyama is one of the most talented players in the series. His aptitude for volleyball makes him a fast learner and his game instinct is on par with veteran setters. Kageyama's greatest strengths are his accuracy and precision. He can set the ball to an exact pinpoint, allowing him to develop the minus tempo quick attack with Hinata. Kageyama was also the first player at Karasuno capable of pulling off a jump serve. His other skills, like receiving and attacking, are also very well developed.

Kageyama's greatest relationship is with the other series protagonist, Shoyo Hinata. Their meeting set off their respective developments as they compete with each other, even on the same team.

Shoyo Hinata

Hinata is a first year student at Karasuno High School and a starting member of the volleyball team. He is the other protagonist and serves as Kageyama's initial growth motivation. While he lacks height and technical skills, Hinata has incredibly athletic abilities. His jumping power, speed, and endurance make him an ideal partner for Kageyama, despite their antagonistic relationship.

At their core, Hinata and Kageyama view each other as their ultimate competition. Hinata envies Kageyama's natural aptitude, height, and abilities. Kageyama sees Hinata's untapped athletic skill and equal hunger to win. They compete even in mundane activities, like racing to practice. Ultimately, they want to face each other on a global scale.
