Daichi Sawamura Haikyuu!! - Figures

Haikyuu!! is a manga series that was both written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s popular Weekly Shonen Jump magazine beginning in early 2012 to mid-2020, which were later compiled into a total of forty-five tankobon volumes. The series has also been adapted into multiple seasons of anime, which first aired in April 2014. Production of the series was handled by Production I.G. and directed by Susumu Mitsunaka and Masako Sato.

With the success of both the Haikyuu!! manga and the anime adaptation, fans were eager to add many different kinds of merchandise to their collections, with one of the most common forms being collectible figures. One of the most popular characters is Daichi Sawamura, the third-year captain of Karasuno’s volleyball team. Out of the small handful of figures that recreate his likeness, some of the most popular include the “Haikyu!! 1-Point Figures Vol. 2”, the “Nendoroid Haikyu!! Nendoroid Haikyu!! Season 3 Daichi Sawamura Figure

Like with most figures in the Nendoroid line, this item takes Daichi’s design and gives it a cute, chibi-style twist. He is seen wearing his black and orange Karasuno uniform, complete with black knee pads. Several points of articulation and a variety of different accessories give this item an incredible amount of variety as well, making it great for fans that like to change things up from time to time. Some of these accessories are facial expression plates, a miniature version of Karasuno’s support banner, and a special base made to look like a volleyball court.

DFX Haikyu!! Vol. 8 Figure

This set of two figures from Banpresto’s DXF line feature the captain of Karasuno’s volleyball team and its ace, Daichi Sawamura and Asahi Azumane. Both characters are wearing their team uniform and have a stern expression as if they were preparing to start a new match. Daichi stands confidently with both hands on his hips while Asahi takes a step forward as he stretches his shoulder. About Daichi Sawamura

Daichi Sawamura is a third-year student at Karasuno High School and is the captain of the school’s volleyball team. Here are some details about his character in the series.

Background

Before enrolling at Karasuno, Daichi was a member of Izumitate Junior High’s volleyball team, where he had some experience being a team captain. Like many other members of Karasuno’s team, Daichi was inspired by the school’s previous prestige as a powerhouse school after seeing its team appear at nationals. Although the school’s team had fallen from grace, Daichi never fully gave up hope, inspiring the other first-year members to truly do their best. Although it took nearly two years, Daichi’s efforts began to pay off after a new set of students, Hinata Shoyo, Tobio Kageyama, Tadashi Yamaguchi, and Kei Tsukishima joined the team.

Special Abilities

Although he may not have as much power or speed as Asahi Azumane or Yu Nishinoya, Daichi excels in receiving spikes from opponents as a result of reading a spiker’s form to tell where the attack will land. This skill proves to be especially useful against powerful attackers like Toru Oikawa and Fukurodani’s setter/ace duo, Keiji Akaashi and Kotaro Bokuto. Aside from his skills as a volleyball player, Daichi is a natural-born leader and always knows how to pull his team out of a bad mood.

Other Important Haikyuu!! Characters

As the captain of Karasuno’s volleyball team, he has become close friends with many of its members, but none so much as the other third-year members, Koshi Sugawara and Asahi Azumane.

Koshi Sugawara

Koshi Sugawara is the vice-captain of Karasuno’s volleyball team and, prior to Tobio Kageyama joining, was the primary setter. After joining the school’s team and being promptly disappointed at its subpar performance, Koshi, along with Daichi and Asahi, decided to hold extra practices in order to hone their volleyball skills. Although he is now mainly an alternate member, he does not hold a grudge against Tobio, yet still refuses to give up a chance to play.

Asahi Azumane

Asahi is Karasuno’s ace and joined Karasuno’s team at the same time as Daichi and Koshi. Although he may lack in areas like speed and stamina, Asahi makes up for this with the sheer amount of power he can produce. Despite his imposing stature and intimidating spikes, Asahi is quite kind-hearted and sensitive when it comes to his position as an ace.
