OtapediaRitsu Tainaka K-On! - Figures

Kyoto Animation's wildly popular seinen series K-On! remains a hit with fans over ten years after its debut. Each character in the series brings a realistic and unique charm, meaning fans form diverse followings around their favorites. Fans of the band's drummer, Ritsu Tanaika enjoy her upbeat personality muddled by her insecurities. Her absent-mindedness and friendship with bandmate Mio Akiyama give her added depth that fans adore. Her more subdued nature shows in the anime's poignant moments that make the seinen genre a widespread hit. The best Ritsu Tainaka figure that showcases her hidden quiet side is the "K-On! 5th Anniversary Ritsu Tainaka 1/8 Scale Figure."

K-On! 5th Anniversary Ritsu Tainaka 1/8 Scale Figure

This anniversary scale figure shows Ritsu in a more subdued, slightly rebellious look rather than her usual cheery demeanor. Modeled after a commemorative 5th-anniversary illustration, Ritsu stands in a languid pose. She stretches her right arm behind her head and bends her right leg at the knee.

Her black motorcycle jacket slips off her shoulder, pulling one of the straps of her camisole dress with it. The pearly pink shine of the dress gives it a satin-like finish, contrasting with the harsh leather jacket. Her bangs fall loosely in her face with part of her hair pulled up in a loose side ponytail. She looks plaintive and aloof with her eyebrows raised and mouth drawn in.

Notable sculptural details include the pleating and lace on the dress's empire waist and the translucent ruffled layer under the dress. She has the band's acronym "HTT" written on her exposed collarbone. The writing looks smudged and half faded, giving the effect of her own handwriting in marker over her heart. Accessories include a snare drum, drumsticks, and alternate hand parts.

About Ritsu Tainaka

Ritsu Tainaka is the self-appointed president of Sakuragaoka High School's Light Music Club. She plays the drums in the club's band, Hokago Tea Time.

Background

Ritsu rebooted the school's failing Light Music Club to save it from disbandment. Due to her optimistic and playful nature, the other club members look to her to keep their spirits high. However, her carefree tendencies often lead to management oversights within the club, such as forgetting to make important announcements. She has the closest relationship with the band's bassist, her childhood friend, Mio Akiyama. Ritsu often displays a tomboyish demeanor though occasionally she shows her shyer, girly side.

Abilities

As the band's drummer, Ritsu can maintain a rhythm and strong back beat. As a result, she gravitates toward rock and metal music with heavy drums. What she lacks in academic skills Ritsu makes up for in athletics and confidence. She also displays high creativity and curiosity to complement her fun-loving nature. Ritsu's greatest strength remains her ability as a mood maker.

Other Important K-On! Characters

The heart of K-On! lies in the relationships the characters have with each other. The members of Hokago Tea Time comprise the show's main cast.

Yui Hirasawa

Yui Hirasawa is the series main protagonist as well as the main vocalist in Hokago Tea Time. Thinking "light music" meant easy or simply music, Yui joined the club with no prior experience. Her gift of perfect pitch and intuitive learning style allowed her to learn guitar fairly quickly and excel as a singer. She is energetic and spirited, though she has no trouble leaning on her bandmates when she needs support. Her fun-loving personality matches well with Ritsu and the two often slack off and goof around together.

Mio Akiyama

Mio Akiyama is Ritsu's childhood best friend and the Hokago Tea Time bassist. Her mature personality contrasts with her comical scaredy-cat tendencies. Due to her dislike of attention, Mio chose the bass as her instrument as she thought it was less conspicuous than the guitar. Mio acts as the band's composer and writes most of the songs they perform. While kind and caring toward her bandmates, Mio expresses a more tsundere-style personality toward Ritsu.

Tsumugi Kotobuki

Tsumugi Kotobuki is the band's keyboardist and as well as the oldest member. Tsumugi's natural affinity for piano made her a prodigy at a young age. However, as the daughter of a wealthy family, Tsumugi occasionally expresses a rebellious streak. She gets excited over seemingly mundane activities, like ordering fast food. In general, Tsumugi loves cute things and behaves with distinguished, gentle maturity. Interestingly, she possesses abnormal physical strength, as seen when she effortlessly transports Ritsu's drum kit on her own.

Azusa Nakano

Azusa Nakano is an underclassman who joins Hokago Tea Time as the rhythm and lead guitarist. Despite her years of experience playing guitar, Azusa's modesty and low self-esteem caused her to introduce herself as a novice when she joined the club. However, the band quickly discovers her skills far surpass the band's current guitarist, Yui Hirasawa. Her ambition and serious approach to music cause her to conflict with the club's laid-back approach to practice. Eventually, she adjusts to the slower pace once she learns that, despite their methods, her bandmates are serious about music.
