OtapediaSlimer Green Ghost Ghostbusters - BE@RBRICK

From the first two Ghostbusters films, fans recognize the Slimer as a representative character in the franchise. While the Slimer primarily hunts for its next meal, the hijinks surrounding its capture came to define the tone of the Ghostbusters movies. The character receives two figure forms in the "BE@RBRICK Ghostbusters Slimer Green Ghost 100% & 400% Set" from Medicom Toy.

Ghostbusters and BE@RBRICK Collaboration Background

Medicom Toy began their line of Ghostbusters figures in collaboration with Columbia Pictures in 2017.

Collaboration Planning and Launch

Medicom Toy's first Ghostbusters BE@BRICK figure was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in 2017. The figure, released only in the 400% size, went on presale that July before entering regular sales in December. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man received both a 1000% size and an Angry Face version in November 2018. Slimer Green Ghost entered the production lineup in July 2019. The figure set went on presale in July 2019 and regular sale in August 2020. Summer of 2020 also featured two other 100% figure two packs representing the four human Ghostbusters.

BE@RBRICK Ghostbusters Slimer Green Ghost 100% & 400% Set

This figure set from Medicom Toy shows the Ghostbusters' first captured spectre in twice the trouble-causing form. Both figures feature a primarily translucent form, the same style used in BE@RBRICK's jellybean line. The legs and ears remain completely clear to depict the Slimer's vaporous, disembodied form. Its face accurately portrays the pulpy, exaggerated art style used in the main films and animated franchise installments. The overly large mouth extends down to the figure's belly, complete with a shiny tongue and numerous chin folds. More slime folds appear on the figure's back.

About Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is an American supernatural comedy film franchise. The first film, titled "Ghostbusters," premiered in 1984 and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver. Aykroyd developed the film's premise alongside costar Harold Ramis. The film grossed over $240 million domestically during its first theatrical run and earned an additional $50 million abroad. The first film is considered one of the greatest American comedies by film aggregate sites.

Columbia pictures approached Aykroyd and Ramis to develop a sequel film that premiered in 1989. The film performed well commercially but received lukewarm reviews from critics. In 2016, a reboot film premiered with an all-female cast as a reimagining of the Ghostbusters origin story. A direct sequel to the original two films, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is set to premiere in June 2021.

About Slimer Green Ghost

Slimer, also known as "onionhead," "little spud," and "the green ghost," is the first ghost captured by the Ghostbusters. The slimer ghost is motivated entirely by hunger and constantly hunts for its next snack. In the script, the ghost character was never given a proper name. Instead, the cast and crew referred to it as "onionhead ghost," in reference to a cut scene discussing the creature's foul smell. Originally, the ghost was only described as an amorphous vapor. However, the design didn't transfer compellingly to film. Its final design drew inspiration from John Belushi's character, Bluto, from the movie Animal House. The slimer ghost appears in the sequel film as a sort of pet belonging to the now out-of-business Ghostbusters.

Other Important Ghostbusters Characters

Peter Venkman

Peter Venkman is one of the founding members of the Ghostbusters and arguably the group's leader. Before the film's events, Venkman was a scientist with doctorates in psychology and parapsychology. He worked alongside Spantz and Spengler at Columbia University, but he showed little interest in their study of ghosts. His depiction is that of the lazy scientist. He is more aggressive in fighting ghosts and seeking compensation for the group's activities. His charisma and dry sense of humor define him more as a character than the earnestness of his intelligent colleagues. Venkman was initially written for actor John Belushi before his sudden drug overdose. Instead, the role became one of actor Bill Murray's establishing performances of the 1980s.

Winston Zeddemore

Winston Zeddemore is the fourth member to join the Ghostbusters. While not one of the founding members, Zeddemore joined the team by answering a job advertisement. In contrast to the rest of the group's wild personalities, Zeddemore functions as the comedic straight man. In the original script, Zeddemore's character was intended to be an equally comedic figure. The writers intended for Eddie Murphy to take the role. However, the crew believed this would add too many comedic elements to the film. Despite being the "everyman" of the main group, Zeddemore is also the most spiritual and religious Ghostbuster.
