Weathering with You is a popular Japanese animated film directed by the famous Makoto Shinkai. It was released in 2019 and became an instant success and was released in the states and other counties and grossed over 21.11 billion yen worldwide. This film reached immense popularity as it was the second collaboration between Makoto Shinkai and Radwimps, who were in charge of the orchestral score and soundtrack. About Weathering with You
The film "Weathering with You" follows teenager Hodaka Morishima as he leaves his hometown to go to Tokyo, despite not having any plans. In Tokyo, he meets Hina Amano, and the two start to form a friendship.
About Weathering with You: Story
The film starts in June 2021, when Hodaka Morishima leaves his home to escape the troubled environment. He goes to Tokyo, where he meets Keisuke Suga and later meets Hina Amano at a McDonald's as he sits there broke and hungry.
Hodaka decides to go and meet Suga at the address on his business card, where he is later hired as an assistant. He is hired to help run a small occult magazine, where he is tasked to investigate different urban legends related to the stormy weather in Tokyo. During the investigation, he hears about the legends of a "sunshine girl" who can control the weather.
Hina and Hodaka first properly talk to each other when Hodaka sees Hina being forced to work by a couple of club owners. Hodaka scares them off using a gun, and Hina takes him up to Yoyogi Kaikan, an abandoned building with a shrine on the roof. This is where Hina shows Hodaka how she can clear the skies by merely praying.

In Weathering with You, the two main characters are named Hodaka Morishima and Hina Amano. They meet for the first time when Hina sees Hodaka starving at the McDonald's she works at and gives him some food out of pity. From then on, the two start to form a friendship. Their relationship strengthens when the two begin a business to help sustain Hina and her younger brother. Hina and her younger brother had lost their parents and were living alone and needed a way to sustain themselves. In particular, the two bond over the hardships they face as young teenagers.
Hodaka proposes that they use Hina's ability and start a business where they will guarantee good weather for different special occasions. The company took off, but they were forced to close it down due to the sheer magnitude it reached. Their friendship turns into a romantic feeling, and the two work hard to protect each other.
Weathering with You Development
Makoto Shinkai first announced the film in August 2018. However, plot development had begun as early as February 2017. In October 2018, the cast for the main characters was confirmed to be Kotaro Daigo and Nana Mori. They were chosen through multiple auditions that were held in August 2018. The first trailer was released on April 10th, exactly 100 days before the premier. Shinkai Makoto states that the film was heavily influenced by the impact of climate change on Japan and is the reason for the choice of heavy rainfall.
Weathering with You Development: Production
Production for the film started approximately in February 2017, starting with plot development. Moving forward, all work was completed on July 7th, 2019, readying the film for its July 19th, 2019 release. Makoto Shinkai is known for his wonderful and delicate exploration of the vulnerabilities of human nature. After finishing the film "Your Name," he states that he decided to create a movie that would anger others more—explaining the slightly happy yet also heartbreaking ending.

There has been high interest in this film from the moment information was released. The film was an international success and grossed 21.11 billion yen worldwide, and is the sixth highest-grossing anime film of all time. In addition, the film received an entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards and four Annie Award nominations, to name a couple. The film has been praised by numerous critics and has been loved by people worldwide!
