OtapediaFinal Fantasy Brave Exvius - Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a free to play RPG game and a spinoff title of the Final Fantasy series, produced by Alim and Square Enix for iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices. It was released in Japan in 2015 and worldwide in 2016. The game is one of a number of Final Fantasy mobile games, and had an average to modest critical reception with mixed reviews upon release. The game inspired a spinoff called War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius another tactical RPG for iOS and android devices released in 2019.

Plot

The game takes place in Lapis, a world where Magic Crystals exist alongside Visions, or physical representations of people's emotions and thoughts. The story’s main protagonist is Rain, a young knight from the Kingdom of Grandshelt. Despite the fact that he is a skilled and capable knight, he feels like he is always in the shadow of his father, Sir Raegan. Rain and childhood companion Lasswell are traveling on their airship when they meet Fina, a young woman trapped in a crystal who pleads for their help. Fina guides them to the Earth Shrine, where the Earth Crystal is being threatened and assaulted by Veritas of the Dark, who claims he is one of the Sworn Six of the world Paladia. Though Veritas’ true desire is unknown, it appears that he wants to end the world through the destruction of all of the crystals. Though Rain and Lasswell have never heard of Veritas, he proves himself a worthy adversary by destroying the Earth Crystal despite their interjections and resistance. With the help of Fina, the party sets out to capture Veritas and put an end to his rampage.

Characters

  • Rain - A knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt. A pilot who took command of an aircraft at just eighteen years old, he has a laid back and easygoing, lazy demeanor. The king and his nation’s people place full trust in him largely due to his father's reputation as a stalwart knight of the kingdom.
  • Lasswell - A knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt. He is a childhood friend of Rain and helps him command his airship. His skills are not lacking and his serious, all business attitude has garnered the trust of those below and above him.
  • Fina - A girl that emerged from an Earth crystal only with the memory of her name. Her innocence and basic knowledge causes her to act like a child . She is adept in white magic and with a bow, but has no recollection of where she acquired her skills.

Gameplay

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a turn based RPG influenced by previous Final Fantasy games and Alim’s Brave Frontier. In each turn a player chooses from a number of actions including the use of special attacks, using items, or defending. Players may craft materials as they traverse dungeons, gaining experience points and money as they progress.

Players advance in a dungeon through a series of stages until they encounter and defeat the end boss, all while gaining experience points, crafting materials, and money. Also new to the game compared to Brave Frontier is the ability to explore through towns and exploration dungeon through touch control in a classic RPG style, which allows the player to talk to people and interact with them, which sometimes gives the player certain tasks to complete.

The players may also use magic spells, summon creatures known as “Espers”, and use character-specific limit bursts. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius utilizes the “Gacha” system whereby players can summon characters from past Final Fantasy series to create parties of five units. A system called chaining can be used during combat whereby attacks can be timed to create attack combinations and increase the damage dealt to enemies. There are three types of chain attacks, normal chains, elemental chains, and spark chains. Players can bring one additional unit into battle by utilizing a friend system. By adding other people to the player's friend list, they are able to select their friend's shared unit before entering a dungeon.
