The Female Titan Arc - Attack on Titan
The Female Titan Arc is the fourth and last story arc of Season 1 of the Attack on Titan anime series, taking place during Episodes 14-25, and the fourth story arc of the Attack on Titan manga, from Chapters 19-34.
The Female Titan Arc Part 1
Season 1, Episode 14 - ‘Can’t Look Into His Eyes Yet: Eve of the Counterattack, Part 1’

It is decided there will be a trial to determine Eren’s fate. While Commander of the Military Police, Nile Dawk, deems Eren a danger to humanity and pushes for a death sentence, Commander Erwin Smith and Commander Dot Pyxis discuss an alternative option for Eren they want to propose during the trial.
Arguments ensue at the trial, where Mikasa and Armin give their testimonies as witnesses. Captain Levi Ackermann brutally beats Eren, knocking out one of his teeth when he calls the officers cowards. Commander Erwin proposes that they take Eren on a mission, the outcome of which will choose Eren’s fate. The head of all three military branches, Dhalis Zachary, agrees to this, and Eren is sent back to his cell.
As Hange Zoë treats Eren’s wounds, she scolds Levi for taking his punishment too far, though Eren agrees with Levi that it was necessary. She also notes that his tooth has already grown back.

Season 1, Episode 15 - ‘Special Operations Squad: Eve of the Counterattack, Part 2’

Captain Levi and the Special Operations squad take Eren to old Scout Regiments headquarters, where he trains to learn control over his new power, and prove his usefulness to the Military Command. Hange Zoe conducts experiments on the two Titans captured during the Struggle for Trost District named Sawney and Bean, finding that Titans need sunlight to live, and that they appear to have no organs. The next day, they are found dead, killed by an unknown soldier.

Season 1, Episode 16 - ‘What Needs to Be Done Now: Eve of the Counterattack, Part 3’

An investigation into the deaths of Sawney and Bean is carried out, but the crime remains unsolved. Commander Erwin Smith confides to the Scout Regiment that their expedition in the next month will be going back to the Shiganshina District to find what secret lays in the basement of Eren Jaeger, and if it explains his Titan power.

Season 1, Episode 17 - ‘Female Titan: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Part 1’

The 57th Expedition begins, and the Scout Regiment assemble a Long-Range scouting form, where small groups ride a distance around the main wagon, using flares to signal if Titans are nearby. After Armin’s squad kills an Abnormal Titan, the Female Titan appears, killing his entire squad, but leaving Armin safe once she sees his face. He is picked up by Reiner and Jean, and realizes the Female Titan’s target is Eren.

Season 1, Episode 18 - ‘Forest of Giant Trees: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Part 2’

Krista Lenz meets with Reiner, Armin and Jean with more horses, and they continue on the expedition, which is now heading towards the Forest of Giant Trees in an attempt to escape the Female Titan. Eren expects his squad to attack the Female Titan as she approaches, and is confused when Captain Levi only fires his flare gun.

Eren’s squad pushes forward, and Eren becomes distraught that they are not fighting while much of the rearguard is killed by the Female Titan. Eren accidentally transforms as he picks up a spoon, leading Hange Zoe to believe he can also transform if his desire to fulfill a goal is strong enough. The squad follows Levi’s plan, not fighting back but trapping the Female Titan with their grappling hooks.

Season 1, Episode 20 - ‘Erwin Smith: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Part 4’

Commander Erwin and Captain Levi try to determine the Female Titan’s true identity while she is still restrained, but find that the Female Titan can crystallize her skin, rendering them unable to cut the nape of her neck to see who is inside. The Female Titan screams draw nearby Titans towards them, who eat much of the squad and the Female Titan’s body. Later, the Female Titan in their human form kills Gunther Schultz.

The Female Titan continues to chase after Eren’s squad in her Titan form, disguising herself as a member of the Scout Regiment to avoid suspicion. Another attack is launched on her when she appears again, but manages to use her regeneration skills to heal her wounds, and kills three of the Scout Regiment. Eren transforms and fights the Female Titan, but ultimately loses when the Female Titan decapitates his Titan form, swallowing his human body whole.

Captain Levi and Mikasa chase after the Female Titan, and Levi injures his leg after debilitating the Female Titan, finally stopping her. Mikasa retrieves Eren’s body, and they leave the Female Titan badly wounded, unable to follow. They fall back to the safety behind Wall Sina, and are told a final decision regarding Eren’s fate will be made in the Capital.

Annie Leonhart dreams of her father training her, waking to find herself in Stohess District with the Military Police, who are tasked with escorting the Scout Regiment through the Capital. Armin asks Annie’s help to smuggle Eren out of the Capital, and she agrees. When they come to the tunnels Eren will travel through, she refuses to enter for fear of being trapped. It is revealed that Annie is the Female Titan, confirming Armin’s suspicions. She transforms and begins to attack them.

It is revealed that Eren’s escape from the Capital was part of Commander Erwin and Armin’s plan to confirm Annie’s true identity as the Female Titan. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin barely avoid being trapped under the collapsed tunnel, and Eren tries and fails to transform due to his conflicting feelings for Annie. Armin reminds Eren of his goal and his mother’s death, and Eren manages to transform once more, charging at Annie, and smashing into a cathedral.

The worshippers inside the cathedral are crushed to death, leaving only the priest alive. Eren eventually overpowers Annie with the help of Mikasa, and Annie encases herself in crystal, entering a coma, so she cannot be interrogated. Commander Erwin accepts responsibility for the damage his plan caused to the city, and is arrested by Nile. As a result of the fight’s destruction, a small section of Wall Sina, revealing the face of a huge Titan within.
