Synopsis

Sakamichi is a high school student and huge fan of anime and figures which has lead to him often biking over to Akihabara. He hopes to join the anime club and make friends with similar interests, but the club has been disbanded. His biking talent is then noticed by Shunsuke Imaizumi and Shoukichi Naruko, members of the Sohoku High Bicycle Club who ultimately convince him to join the club. The series follows the members of the club as they struggle and succeed in competitive races.

Background

The series was first released as a manga written and illustrated by Wataru Watanabe, and it began its serialization in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion in February 2008. The manga itself is ongoing and has 54 volumes as of January 5, 2018. It’s been immensely well-received, earning the Best Shonen Manga award alongside the Seven Deadly Sins manga at the 39th Kodansha Manga Awards. More than 17 million copies of the manga have been printed, as well.

An OVA was then released on August 8, 2013, directed by Osamu Nabeshima who has gone on to direct all of the anime adaptations which began airing on October 7, 2013. In addition to the original first Yowamushi Pedal season, there have been two other seasons (Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road and Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation), as well as several films.

Anime Adaptation

Yowamushi Pedal: Glory Line is the fourth anime season of Yowamushi Pedal, and it’s set after the summer as the third-year students retire from the club and the “new generation” team do their best to become Inter-High champions again against their rivals including Hakone Academy and Kyoto Fushimi High School!

The original staff has returned for another exciting season including director Osamu Nabeshima, writer Kurasumi Sunayama, and composer Kan Sawada. Yukiko Ban served as character designer, Shunichiro Yoshihara as art director, Takeshi Takadera as sound director, Toshihiro Sasaki as CGI director, Takeshi Katsurayama as photography director, Tomoyuki Aoki on art setting, and Fusako Nakao as color designer.

The opening theme is “Boku no Koe” (“My Voice”) by Rhythmic Toy World, and the ending theme is “Carry the Hope” by High Cadence Rock, a character band including Daiki Yamashita, Daisuke Kishio, Hiro Shimono, Jun Fukushima, Kousuke Toriumi, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.
