Synopsis

Daigo Shigeno is a young teen whose father, Goro Shigeno, happens to be a famous professional baseball player. After his father dies in a tragic car accident, Daigo realizes he wants to follow in his footsteps and starts to take his own baseball journey seriously.

Background

This series is a direct sequel to Major, a baseball manga that was written by Takuya Mitsuda and serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1994 to 2010. Major continued for 78 volumes and even won the Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category in 1996! The series followed the life of protagonist Goro Shigeno from the time he was in elementary school until the time that he achieved his dream of becoming a professional baseball player. Major had an anime series, anime film, and three OVAs.

Major 2nd takes place a decade or so after the end of Major and was also written by Takuya Mitsuda. It was also first serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2015 and is currently ongoing with 12 volumes released.

Broadcast Info

Major 2nd will premiere on NHK-E starting April 7, 2018. The opening theme is “Koete Ike” by Kyuuso Nekokami, whereas the ending theme is “Pride” by Yuu Takahashi.

Characters

Daigo Shigeno (CV: Natsumi Fujiwara)
The protagonist and the young son of the late Goro Shigeno. After the death of his father, he decides to try his own hand at becoming a professional baseball player.

Hikaru Satou (CV: Koutarou Nishiyama)
The son of Goro Shigeno’s friend, Toshiya Satou. He is Daigo’s friend, teammate, and rival.

Mutsuko Sakura (CV: Kana Hanazawa)
The main heroine. She is also a classmate of Daigo’s.

Izumi Shigeno (CV: Natsumi Takamori)
Daigo’s older sister and the eldest daughter of Goro Shigeno.

Michiru Mayumura (CV: Yui Horie)
Ken Mayumura’s daughter and Wataru’s twin sibling.

Wataru Mayumura (CV: Jun Fukushima)
Ken Mayumura’s son and Michiru’s twin sibling.

Toshiya Sato (CV: Masakazu Morita)
The father of Hikaru and a childhood friend of Goro Shigeno. He developed a love of baseball because of him.

Hideki Shigeno (CV: Shunsuke Sakuya)
Goro’s adoptive father and Daigo’s adoptive grandfather. Hideki is married to Momoko and has two children with her: Chiharu and Shingo.

Momoko Shigeno (CV: Junko Noda)
Goro’s adoptive mother and Daigo’s adoptive grandmother. Momoko is married to Hideki and has two children with him: Chiharu and Shingo.
