Background

Boku no Hero Academia is an action and comedy series following heroes-in-training who attend U.A. High School. Written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi, the series was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014, and as of Feb. 2018, 16 volumes have been released.

The series became an instant hit and has gone on to be adapted into spin-off manga, video games, and more, and was adapted into an anime in April 2016. The first series was directed by Kenji Nagasaki and written by Yousuke Kuroda with animation by Bones.

The first two cours included 38 episodes, and season 3 was first announced in the 44th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2017.

Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season Synopsis

The series follows Izuku Midoriya (Deku), a boy who desperately wants to become a pro hero like All Might. Despite hoping that he will one day find out that he has a Quirk, he comes to realize that he’s actually Quirkless, shattering his dreams. Despite this, he still intends to go to a high school dedicated to training pro heroes: U.A. High School.

He gets attacked by a villain while depressed about his situation and is saved by All Might whom he consults (despite All Might’s reluctance) about his Quirkless situation. Although All Might initially tells Deku to give up on his dream of being a hero, he later sees Deku’s true heroic nature and trains him to handle All Might’s own Quirk, One For All. This Quirk enables Deku to concentrate the power of its previous holders in his attacks, making it a Quirk that grows stronger with each new holder. With this, it’s revealed that All Might was born Quirkless.

Deku successfully gets into U.A. High School (although barely) and trains alongside other heroes in training to become pro heroes. Villains lurk in the shadows, however, including the Hero Killer Stain, as well as the League of Villains. The series ends with Deku being threatened by Tomura Shigaraki, the main antagonist of the series and the leader of the League of Villains. Shigaraki possesses All For One, a Quirk that enables him to steal the Quirks of others.

With the increasing movement of villains, the training heroes are upping their training. Season 3 is expected to include the School Trip arc which is set after the first semester. Class 1-A will go on a school trip to a training camp while under the supervision of the hero team Pussycats including Mandalay, Pixie-bob, Ragdoll, and Tora.
