Nekomata Okayu is a Japanese VTuber that is a member of Hololive GAMERS, a group of Hololive members that focus on gaming rather than singing and other variety streams. With her playful antics and casual personality, Okayu has become one of the few VTuber that have reached over 1,000,000 subscribers.

Nekomata Okayu is a cat girl VTuber with a calm personality and soothing voice that, as a member of Hololive GAMERS, often plays video games on her channel, though she often hosts other content like karaoke and chatting streams as well. When it comes to games, Okayu often has a preference for Nintendo games, though she enjoys a variety of other games as well.

Nekomata Okayu History

Prior to her official YouTube debut, Okayu was revealed to be one of the VTubers that would be joining the recently formed Hololive GAMERS group during Shirakami Fubuki’s first stream with her updated 3D model, which happened on March 22nd, 2019. About two weeks later, on April 6th, Okayu held her first stream on her YouTube channel. By the end of 2019, Okayu also revealed a 3D model for her character and reached 100,000 subscribers on her channel. In 2020, she would also receive two new outfits for her 2D model, make her first major live concert debut in “Hololive 1st fes. Nonstop Story”, and reach over 700,000 subscribers on her channel. 2021 also brought its fair share of success, as Okayu would release her first original song, “Mogu Mogu Yummy!”, on February 22nd. She also reached 1,000,000 subscribers on April 17th, making her the thirteenth member of Hololive to do so.

Nekomata Okayu Physical Description

Nekomata Okayu is a cat girl VTuber with shoulder-length pastel lavender hair with a short ahoge (cowlick) and amethyst eyes that are highlighted with brilliant sparkles. As a cat girl, Okayu has a pair of large, fluffy cat ears and a long tail that matches the color of her hair. While she has several different outfits that she can use with her 2D model, her original outfit consists of a baggy black and purple pull-over hoodie with a rice ball on it and a pair of white and purple sweats with one of the legs pulled up to her knee. The outfit also includes a pair of yellow sneakers and a collar with a cat charm on it.

For New Year’s Day 2020, she received a special outfit to celebrate the holiday. This outfit includes a simple kimono that fades from white to purple and includes a knee-length skirt. The kimono is also covered with a white apron with a rice ball on it that is tied with a black and purple obi. Her yellow sneakers are also swapped with a pair of ankle-length socks and zori sandals with purple straps. On June 12th, 2020, Okayu revealed her second alternate outfit, which is a sailor uniform-themed dress that consists of a black top with white cuffs, collar, and tie, a pair of white shorts, and black socks with black sneakers.

Nekomata Okayu Personality

Much like the average housecat, Okayu is often described as playful, relaxed, and carefree. She often does things at her own pace without worrying about what anyone thinks of her and generally refuses to do anything she does not want to do herself. Some may believe that this might make her lazy when combined with her laid-back and carefree personality, but Okayu is actually quite responsible and motivated. That said, she is incredibly playful and likes causing chaos from time to time. Pranks, puns, and teasing are common with Okayu, though it is always in good fun. This mischief eventually resulted in the creation of the Okayu Court, which tries Okayu whenever her antics go “too far”, like when she eats another’s food or gets too flirty with other Hololive members.

Okayu is also incredibly close with Inugami Korone, another member of Hololive GAMERS that debuted around the same time as her. The pair have known each other well before they joined Hololive, as Korone was able to join the agency based on Okayu’s recommendation alone. After their debuts, the two can often be seen together on collaboration streams. Okayu also occasionally collaborates with Shiina Yuika, a VTuber from Nijisanji that shares the same illustrator as her.

Associated Company

Okayu is a member of Hololive Production, which is a VTuber agency that manages around fifty VTubers across three different brands. Its largest branch is Hololive, an all-female group of VTubers with three different branches that focus on different languages. Hololive Production also includes a smaller all-male VTuber group called Holostars and its own music label, INNK Music. Okayu herself is a part of Hololive GAMERS, a four-member group composed of Okayu herself, Shirakami Fubuki, Ookami Mio, and Inugami Korone that focuses on playing games instead of other streams. That said, this generation also participates in many other activities that the other generations do as well, like singing karaoke and participating in live concerts.

While games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Bros. are all classic games that Okayu has featured on her channel, she has also played games from several other popular series as well. Some notable examples include Mother 3, the Donkey Kong Country series, the Paper Mario series, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and the Legend of Zelda series. While not as long as some of Korone’s endurance streams, most of these Nintendo game streams are often longer than her average and can last anywhere from three to seven hours each.
