OtapediaHina One Piece - Figures

One Piece is a best-selling manga series that has been published in Weekly Shonen Jump since July 1997. Both the writing and the artwork for the series is done by Eiichiro Oda, who has created over a thousand chapters of One Piece since it first debuted. The anime adaptation by Toei is similarly long, totaling over nine-hundred episodes since the first episode aired in 1999. Throughout the years, One Piece would find its way into other forms of media as well, like film, video games, novels, and more. The range of merchandise that is available for fans is similarly impressive as well, with one of the most popular forms of merchandise being collectible figures of the many different characters that appear throughout the series. Although characters like Luffy, Nico Robin, and Boa Hancock all have dozens of figures that recreate their many different costumes and appearances, other minor characters have enough of a following to get their own figures as well. One such character is Hina, a Rear Admiral, and acquaintance of Smoker. Two figures of Hina that are especially popular are the “One Piece World Collectable Figure -Levely- Vol. 1” and the “Portrait of Pirates One Piece Limited Edition Black Cage Hina.

One Piece World Collectable Figure -Levely- Vol. 1 Figure

This collection of six figures is available as a complete set, but can also be purchased individually as well. Each item in this collection focuses on characters that appear in the short, yet incredibly important Levely Arc. Such characters include Nefertari Vivi and her companion Karoo, Rebecca, Coby, Helmeppo, and Hina. Hina, like the other figures in this collection, has a somewhat chibi-style design, but still retains most of her original design. She is wearing her classic outfit, which is made up of a dark red suit and a Marine coat that she wears over her shoulders. She is also posed standing as she holds a Transponder Snail in her hands as if giving a report to a higher-up.

About Hina

Hina is a Rear Admiral in the Marines and was first introduced in the Alabasta Arc. The following is a quick overview of her character.

Background

Before becoming a proper member of the Marines, Hina joined the same Marines class as Smoker, leading to them being sent out on missions together from time to time. She is well known for often speaking in the third person, which some characters consider cute. Aside from this habit, however, Hina has a strict, no-nonsense personality. That said, she is fairly logical and knows when to admit defeat, as she does against Luffy after he evades her attempts to subdue him.

Special Abilities

During the Alabasta Arc, Hina displays impressive levels of perception, which allows her to see through the disguises of several members of the Baroque Works just by looking at their bounty posters. Furthermore, she shows great wonderful skills as a fighter, even before she gained her Devil Fruit abilities. After she eats the Cage-Cage Fruit, however, she is able to produce metallic bindings with her body, eventually earning her the nickname, “Black Cage Hina”. By passing these bindings through an opponent, the binding will wrap around them and turn as hard as iron, often subduing them.

Other Important One Piece Characters

Two characters have served under Hina for most of One Piece: Jango and Fullbody. Their characters are briefly summarized below.

Jango

Jango is a man that used to be a member of the Black Cat Pirates in the Syrup Village Arc, but later joined Hina’s unit of Marines out of pure admiration toward her. He is mostly known for his use of hypnotism, which he often uses to make his enemies fall asleep or give his allies a boost by using wells of strength that can only be used by the subconscious. That said, Jango’s hypnotism has other uses as well, like the ability to erase the memories of a given target. This hypnosis can be easily defeated, however, as the target needs to be looking at his pendulum for it to take effect. As such, all one needs to do is close their eyes to avoid being hypnotized.

Fullbody

Fullbody was a Marine lieutenant when he was first introduced in the Baratie Arc, where he acts as a minor antagonist. Here, he tells the members of his Marine unit to sink the Straw Hat’s ship and tries to falsely accuse Sanji of serving him soup with a bug in it. Both attempts go poorly, causing Fullbody to flee the restaurant. Later, on Mirrorball Island, he meets Jango, who was using a disguise at the time to hide from the Marines. The two become close friends, leading to Fullbody sacrificing his position and status in exchange for Jango’s life, as he was to be sentenced to death for being a pirate. Both Jango and Fullbody meet Hina here as well and immediately request that they join her group.
