OtapediaGeralt of Rivia The Witcher 3 - Figures

“Toss a coin to your Witcher, oh valley of plenty,” or so the song goes. Being a Witcher is no easy task. To hunt down and kill the magical and supernatural monsters that haunt the land is a tough gig. There’s a big difference between hunting down a troublesome, chicken-stealing fox and hunting down a murdering, vengeful Wraith or an old, man-eating Foglet. However, for a small price, your Witcher will handle these tricky tasks.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a massively successful video game that began with the 1994 fantasy novel ‘Blood of the Elves’ by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. A pentalogy following the adventures of the famous Witcher from Kaer Morhen, Geralt of Rivia; his true love, the beautiful sorceress, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and their adoptive daughter Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon (or Ciri for short). The story features all of the typical things one might expect from a dark fantasy story; love, betrayal, duty, monsters, tragedy, and passion. Here are three of the most passionately made Geralt of Rivia figures out there, Dark Horse Comics’ “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Geralt Deluxe Figure”, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Geralt Grandmaster Ursine”, and the “Nendoroid’s Nendoroid The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Geralt”.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Geralt Deluxe Figure

Geralt in his standard-issue Witcher’s armor. Thick pauldrons and gauntlets made of chain and padded with leather. This is the armor that Geralt starts with in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s surprisingly cool considering it’s the starter armor with less than average stats. Dark Horse Comics has made an excellent figure of Geralt wearing this armor. A perfect recreation, this figure would be a proud addition to any collection, Witcher or not. No need to worry about the lack of articulation though, at 208mm, Geralt is a big lad, he also comes with two interchangeable headpieces for some extra variety.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Geralt Grandmaster Ursine Figure

The game features a number of different armors, all obtainable from treasure hunt quests and based on the different animals that represent the different Witcher schools. Geralt is from the School of the Wolf, Kaer Morhen whereas this armor is that of the School of the Bear in Haern Caduch keep. The school of the bear favors defensive ability over agility based moving and dodging. Thigh-length chainmail padded with cross-stitched leather over plate greaves met with full plated arms and an assortment of leather parts. The Grandmaster Ursine armor is clearly designed to tank blows as opposed to evade them. The detail and quality that Dark Horse Comics has brought with this figure, the armor, weapons, and Geralt himself are undeniably brilliant.

  • Series: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • Manufacturer: Dark Horse

Nendoroid The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Geralt Figure

Nendoroid takes the figure game, keeps the detail, maintains high quality, but adds buckets of cute. The chain links in Geralt’s armor are clearly visible along with his Witcher medallion. Steel and silver swords exist in the world of the Witcher; silver for monsters and steel for man. Geralt, as a Witcher, is always seen carrying one of each. The pommels and hilt (sword handles) are immaculately crafted.

About Geralt of Rivia

Geralt is the main character of the Witcher series, including books, games, and other media. He is the only playable character in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt apart from flashback scenes featuring Ciri.

Background

Given by his mother to the Witcher’s of Kaer Morhen, Geralt was exposed to a chain of pharmaceutical enhancement and trials as a child. Due to this, he is unnaturally strong, able to use potions, and ages slowly. Geralt was more resistant to the trials than other Witcher’s apprentices and as such received further enhancement that removed all pigment from his skin. It is said that Witcher’s are stripped of their emotion, but it’s clear that Geralt can feel anger, love, jealousy, etc.

Special Abilities

Geralt can use some magic signs, most famously Aard and Quen. Potions and concoctions are also usable by Witchers whereas for a normal human they would be dangerous; possibly fatal. Geralt is widely recognized throughout the land for his feats and accomplishments but also for his skill with arms; Geralt is one of the most fearsome swordsmen in the world.

Other Important Witcher 3: Wild Hunt characters

There are many characters in the Witcher series and all of them have wonderful development and arcing stories of their own. Take Dandelion for example; he is a traveling companion of Geralt’s and is unwittingly due to his foolish nature, which is a huge part of the storyline. There are two other characters though that essentially mold Geralt into the Witcher we see onscreen.

Yennefer of Vengerberg

Yennefer is Geralt’s one true love. She was born on a farm to two poor parents but having a natural ability for magic, she was sold to the lodge sorceresses. There she was trained to become a powerful sorceress and had her physical imperfections (hunched back and asymmetrical face) fixed with a painful magical procedure. Now she is known as a raven-haired beauty. Her goal (one that she achieved) was to become Adviser to King Demavend III of Aedirn.

Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon (Ciri).

Ciri is the daughter of the Emperor of Nilfgaard, Emhyr. Emhyr was once known as Duny, an exiled and cursed prince of Nilfgaard. He fell in love with and thanks to Geralt, managed to marry the princess of Cintra, Pavetta and had a child with her (Ciri). In return for lifting the curse, Geralt enacted the law of surprise, which meant he would receive that which was unknown to Duny, his unborn baby, Ciri. After the fall of Cintra, Ciri escaped, finding refuge with a farmer and his wife. There again Geralt saved the farmer and his wife and enacted the law of surprise, again, the reward being Ciri. Ciri eventually traveled with Geralt to Kaern Morhen and learned the ways of the Witcher.
