About Blanka

Blanka is, believe it or not, a human! Originating from Brazil, he lives in the rainforest and only has a few connections with other humans.

Background

Blanka, known after the Street Fighter 2 game as Jimmy, is a kid who survived a nightmare situation. As a child, Blanka was in a plane crash over the jungles of Brazil. Surviving in the rainforest meant eating plants and the chlorophyll from them actually turned his skin green! Some will argue that his skin was turned green from experiments done by Shadaloo. However, that doesn’t explain his ability to generate lighting, which is his main attack. After the events of Street Fighter 2, Blanka was reunited with his birth mother, who noticed him from his anklets that he wears. She gave him a true gift, his name, now being known as Jimmy he continued his journey.

Special Abilities

Blanka is known for three things, his crazy hair, his animalistic attack style, and his lightning ability. His attack style is described as animalistic and it's something that he developed while surviving in the Jungle. He also has the ability to generate lightning, about 150,000 volts to be exact. With all of this in mind, he is one fearsome opponent that is usually seen charging an enemy. Even though Blanka was knocked out in the first round of the Second World Warrior Tournament.

Other important Street Fighter Characters

Blanka has two close friends, Dan and Sakura. Along with them, Ryu and Ken are also important characters to not only the series but the other characters.

Dan

Dan first appears in Street Fighter Alpha, and right away is either loved or hated. Even though Dan and Blanka are close friends, Dan is always lecturing Blanka on what it means to be a real man. Which of course, Blanka, like many other characters in the series cannot stand listening to. Although Dan is best described as being in love with himself, he can be caring sometimes. Dan considers himself a fatherly figure to Sakura, Blanka’s other friend, which of course she never listens to him. He also has an ego the size of a house, he is seen more as a comedic person rather than an extremely skilled fighter. Which, he would argue against.

Sakura

Sakura is not only extremely skilled, but she is also a close friend of Blanka. With Sakura appearing in Street Fighter Alpha 2, she has a fixation on Ryu, and has copied many of his moves to prove her fixation to him! She views him as a personal hero and will always be ready to fight at the mere mention of his name! During her first appearance in the series, Sakura is actually still in high school. She manages to balance her training and schoolwork, which is impressive all by itself! Sakura is a noble and determined fighter, which brings her to a good reputation with many of the other fighters. That includes her Sensei, Dan, who she sees more of as a friend than a competitor.

Ryu

The protagonist and hero of the Street Fighter series is always ready for a fight. With his original fighting style based on actual Karate, Ryu is able to handle nearly every situation. Being a genuine person, Ryu makes many friends but is often tormented by a darker desire to achieve power. This is often brought up during his travels that he has an inner will that is eating away at his kindness and “nicer” side of his personality. Ryu’s personality is a general lightheartedness, except for when he is hungry. He is even known for having a sense of humor, although it is generally a bad one.

Ken

The family man with a plan, here is Ken. Not only has he been childhood friends with Ryu, but Ken also shares Ryu’s dream of perfecting his martial arts. However, he doesn’t go overboard with this as he also has to balance his training with his family life and cannot endanger them. When not worried about his family, he is the exact opposite of Ryu, unpredictable and even egotistical. While he believes in honor and hard work, he still takes time to let his opponents know just who they are facing and how great he is. Ken is also a friend of Sakura, showing not only her ability but friendliness as well. However, Ken cannot stand being around Dan and actually insults Dan right in front of him. Which may have caused Ken’s apprentice to look down on Dan as well.
