Synopsis

Masato Osuki is an average high school boy with a deep love for online role-playing games. One day, he fills out what he thinks is a survey for the government, but unbeknownst to him it happens to be an application to join the beta for a full-dive RPG. Without warning, Masato is transported through his PC into the game world. The setting is high-fantasy, filled with swords, monsters, and mages, all governed by the systems found in a typical RPG. But unlike any other isekai, in this story Masato has to adventure with his own mother, Mamako! The two can’t return to the real world until they clear the obstacle of growing closer in their relationship to one another. This proves problematic, as Masato is often embarrassed and irritated by his doting mother, a woman who loves her son dearly and still thinks of him as her baby boy.

Background

In January 2017, Fujimi Fantasia Bunko began publishing the light novel Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? with the series penned by Dachima Inaka and illustrated by Pochi Iida (The Elder Sister-Like One). A manga adaptation began serialization under Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace Up in September 2017 by writer Meitiya. Both are still ongoing as of May 2019. An anime version is scheduled to begin airing in July 2019. It is directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki (Love Hina, Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky, (The) Familiar of Zero) and animated by J.C.Staff.

Characters

Mamako Osuki (Voiced by: Ai Kayano)

Masato’s mother, Mamako is one of the main protagonists of the adventure. Although already the mother of a 15-year-old boy, she still looks very young. She could even be mistaken as his older sister! Mamako has long brown hair and an impressive bust. She can dual-wield two sacred swords for OP attack power, hence the name of the anime. She loves her son more than anything in the world and she wants to grow closer to him through this deep dive game, even if she doesn’t know a thing about RPG’s. Her endearing nickname for him is Maa-kun, which he hates.

Masato Osuki (Voiced by: Haruki Ishiya)

Male protagonist Masato is a 15-year-old high school student well versed in RPG’s. He loves his mother, but he feels smothered by her and often rudely demands that she keep her distance. He is determined by the game to be an ordinary hero and has weaker attack power than his mother. However, he makes up for this with his strategic knowledge.

Wise (Voiced by: Sayumi Suzushiro)

Wise is a female mage about Masato’s age who has also been pulled from the real world to play this game with her mother. However, she had a falling out with her mom and she doesn’t want to adventure with her. She applies to join Masato and Mamako and hopes to clear the game that way. Wise has long orange hair tied up into two large curled tails. As a fairly skilled mage, she has the ability the teleport and even transform into a piece of paper!

Pota (Voiced by: Sayaka Harada)

Pota is a little sister type character who has applied to join Masato’s and Mamako’s party. She is another beta player for the game but her mom had some important business in the real world, so she is adventuring without her at the start of the story. Pota has short pink hair with small braids that run down both sides of her head behind her ears. Small in stature, she can often be timid around others. She is from the merchant class, meaning she isn’t much of a fighter, but she does carry around a small bag that can carry the party’s entire inventory! She also gets discounts from other merchants.

Medhi (Voiced by: Lynn)

Medhi is a healer type beta player of the game. She was raised by her mother to be reserved. She can use both light and dark magic. Having a strict and somewhat abusive mom, Medhi’s emotional state sometimes goes to dark places, leading to the proliferation of her dark magic. Medhi has short light blue hair and uses a staff as her weapon.

Masumi Shirase (Voiced by: Satomi Arai)

Masumi Shirase is a government official who guides Masato and Mamako as they begin their dive into the game. She usually tells a pun about her own name due to traumatic teasing she faced as a kid. She is in her mid 20s.
