Synopsis

Close to 1,000 years has passed since magic power vanished from the world, and in the minds of everyday people magic has become all but forgotten. Mangetsu Kohinata is a cheerful and energetic high school girl. Though she tries to stay optimistic, she has anxiety due to not being good at academics or sports and longs to be able to do something that only she can do. One day she meets Shingetsu Ernesta Fukami and encounters a magical doll called an Armanox. The gears of Mangetsu’s fate begin to turn...

Background

Granbelm is an original TV anime from Shinichiro Otsuka and Masaharu Watanabe that is being produced by Nexus. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2019 on MBS’ Animeism. The opening theme song is "Tsuki o Ou Mayonaka" by Eir Aoi.

Characters

Shingetsu Ernesta Fukami (Voiced by: Atsumi Tanezaki)

Originally from Japan, Shingetsu lived more recently in Germany before moving back. She has a seemingly quiet appearance and can give off a strict vibe from her frank and direct way of speaking, but she means well. She is good at looking after others.

Mangetsu Kohinata (Voiced by: Miyuri Shimabukuro)

An extremely average high school girl in all respects, Mangetsu is dependable and always willing and happy to help someone without a second word. She isn’t very skilled at either academics or sports but she gets on fairly well with her classmates. She yearns to be able to do something special that no one else can.

Anna Fugo (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)

Heir to the noble Fugo family, Anna received special education for gifted children. She is a hard worker who likes to meet the expectations of those around her and is undergoing intensive training in order to take over for the family, and she has self-confidence backed up by her achievements and skills. She appears to be some sort of an old friend of Shingetsu’s.

Nene Rin (Voiced by: Yurika Kubo)

A classmate of Kibo’s who dreams of being Mangetsu’s little sister, Nene has two younger sisters who live in Hong Kong who call her “Nene-nee.” For certain reasons she left her sisters behind and moved to Japan. She speaks in a very mature manner and has a tendency to assert that she is an adult, but in her daily life she’s quite a clutz and is warmly looked after by those around her.

Rosa (Voiced by: Chinatsu Akasaki)

A pupil of Anna’s who works for the Fugo family, Rosa doesn’t think highly of Anna’s overbearing attitude due to the differences in their upbringings and complains often about things. She forms a pair with Suisho, though unlike her she seems to get the short end of the stick, possibly due to her frank personality.

Kibo Kohinata (Voiced by: Hikaru Akao)

Mangetsu’s younger sister, Kibo is a middle schooler and classmates with Nene. She is very smart and level-headed for her age, possibly due to her older sister being a bit unreliable. She has looked after Nene since she moved and the two have become close friends.

Suisho Hakamada (Voiced by: Aoi Yuki)

A pupil of Anna’s who works for the Fugo family, Suisho is always smiling and no one can tell when she’s being serious or joking. She appears to be rather worldly and somehow manages to stay under the radar to avoid Anna’s scoldings, which Rosa often ends up on the receiving end of.

Kuon Tsuchimikado (Voiced by: Manaka Iwami)

A seemingly quiet middle schooler, Kuon actually comes from a long line of sorcerers and inherited the duty of protecting the family. Because of her upbringing, she isn’t very close with any of her classmates, and on days off she often hangs out at the lake listening to music by herself.

Nana Rin (Voiced by: Juri Kimura)

Nene’s younger sister, Nana has loose, wavy hair and narrow eyes. Together with her sisters she runs a fortune-telling shop in Hong Kong.

Mimi Rin (Voiced by: Nozomi Kasuga)

Nene’s other younger sister, Mimi helps support her sisters through strategic planning. She speaks rationally and wears flame red glasses.

Shisui Tsuchimikado (Voiced by: Yukari Tamura)

Kuon’s older sister, Shisui is the true successor of the Tsuchimikado family, but due to certain circumstances she has entrusted the role to Kuon.

Sasha (Voiced by: Yumi Uchiyama)

An employee who works for the Fugo family, Sasha mainly supports Anna’s mother both publicly and privately as well as performs other duties including driving on family outings. Always modest, even when being scolded by Anna she keeps to herself and feigns indifference.

Claire Fugo (Voiced by: Marika Kono)

Anna’s younger sister, Claire has grown up to be an honest, kind girl due to the love she received from her mom and Anna. She is physically fit and skilled in rhythmic gymnastics.
