OtapediaQuinella 2/2 - Sword Art Online

Quinella, also known as Administrator, was the Axiom Church head, the tyrant of the Human Empire in Underworld, and the main antagonist of the first half of Alicization Arc 1/2.

Continued from page 1.

The Cardinal System Issue

She woke up an entire day later, and no longer aged or needed to eat or drink. What she had instead was the urge to regulate the world. Combined with Quinella's lust for power, it transformed into a desire to lock the Human Empire in its current state. For that, she needed control over everyone.

To that end, Quinella reorganized the Human Empire into four empires, and assigned the local nobles as emperors. Then she spawned the tall marble Everlasting Walls between the empires, dividing the Human Empire into four sectors with the circle of Centoria in the middle, and dotted the living area with more insurmountable obstacles to stop people from traveling and uniting to conspire against her. She kept making additions to the Taboo Index with many subsequent editions, and by the time Kirito arrived, it accounted well over a thousand rules describing many minute things — all so that the people would not try doing anything unexpected, and preferably just stop thinking for themselves. She caught and synthesized the dissenters, popping their their Fluctlights open to perform experiments and discover its makings.

At this point, Cardinal's error correction process started kicking in, as the main process was performing a direct influence on humans which was not its intended purpose. Every time, Cardinal tried to kill Quinella, but she resisted.

Quinella began research to lock the error correction process out. She noticed that the moments of it surfacing were matching her emotional peaks, and synthesized herself, freezing her fear, anger, and most other emotions giving her trouble.

The Memory Issue

Around 150 years old now, Quinella noticed that her memory was failing her a lot. She would lose consciousness for a split-second, she could not recall her short-time memories, she would even forget the simplest Sacred Arts commands time and again. Something needed to be done about it.

She looked at her own Fluctlight closely and found it had reached its capacity limit. She noticed a 10-yer old nun on the lower levels of the Cathedral, who had a high System Control Authority. Quinella invited the nun to her room at the tower top, and overwrote her mind with her own Fluctlight. However, when both woke up, neither one was able to live with the notion that there were now two of her and was falling apart. But the nun's Fluctlight broke first, and Cardinal's error correction subprocess took hold on the girl's body, while the Administrator remained in Quinella's body. The breakdown stopped, and Cardinal attacked Quinella immediately. Cardinal was winning at first, but Quinella cleverly used their difference in height, and Cardinal had to escape into the magical Great Library Room, earlier made by Quinella as a bunker. Cardinal locked herself in there and used the time Quinella spent opening the passage again to completely destroy the door first, in the nick of time.

After this, Quinella was busy keeping her memory in control by recycling the old or minor memories and staying still with her eyes shut to avoid new ones. She also protected herself by synthesizing her former test subjects, Taboo breakers, and the winners of the Four Empires Unity Tournament and blocking or adjusting some of their memories to turn them into her slaves, the Integrity Knights. All of her activities were now delegated, so she kept hibernating except at the scheduled times.

Quinella's Demise

Alice, Eugeo, and Kirito fought Quinella at length, and finally, she was fatally wounded. Quinella decided to keep herself alive by going to the real world before time. She activated the hidden console connected with the real world. She started the transfer, and began rising into the air in a pillar of light. She talked to Kirito to say goodbye, but in the last moments of her speech, Chudelkin had decided to join her and jumped in, his body bursting in flames. He embraced Quinella, and they both were ablaze and perished.
