Evangelion is an example of one of the most popular and inspirational anime series from the 1990s and continues to be enjoyed by fans both old and new to this very day. While some love the series for its cool mecha fights and designs, others can appreciate the deep psychological analyses of its own characters and its themes of existentialism. Either way, the series continues to thrive, even though it has been nearly 25 years since its original television broadcast. Due to its popularity, a wide range of merchandise has been produced by many different companies to create a variety of different kinds of themed goods, toys, pre-made cosplay, apparel such as t-shirts and hoodies and much more. The recent Rebuild of Evangelion movie series and its addition to Netflix’s lineup created an entirely new wave of demand, resulting in entirely new merchandise to be created and sold. Eva Store Original Christmas Rei & Asuka Mug

This ceramic mug by GroundWorks features artwork of both Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Shikinami standing in a cute pose while being dressed in feminine Santa costumes. It can hold 310 milliliters of hot or cold liquid, making it perfect for enjoying a nice, warm beverage during the colder parts of the year. Rei and Asuka are both seen wearing a Santa costume, but there are some differences that reflect their individual characters. For example, Rei’s costume has a collar and covers her shoulders, reflecting her more modest personality whereas Asuka’s costume is more revealing, as it shows off her bare shoulders. Likewise, Rei shows a gentle smile while Asuka beams a smile full of confidence. In the background, there is a green “Evangelion Store” banner that wraps around the mug and completes the classic combination of Christmas colors along with the red Santa costumes and “Merry Christmas” NERV logo. Evangelion Silver White Moon Ring

This classy ring is made by K.Uno under its U-Treasure brand and consists of 950 silver and a 0.014 carat diamond. It incorporates several different references from Evangelion, like a design of a crater-filled moon on the outside of the ring. While a rather subtle inclusion, the moon holds rather significant importance in Evangelion, especially in the End of Evangelion film and the lore of the series as a whole. On the inside of the ring, an engraving of the Lance of Longinus, an incredibly powerful artifact said to be powerful enough to stop a god, can be seen as well. A particularly unusual characteristic of this ring is that the 0.014 carat diamond is set on the inside of the ring rather than the outside, making it hidden while it is worn. Although it may seem like a simple ring with the design of the moon from the outside, it makes a beautiful and subtle way for a fan to show off their appreciation of the series.

Giga Jumbo Plush Evangelion Series Pen Pen

This giant plush is created to look just like Misato’s pet penguin, Pen-Pen. It features his Pen2 nameplate, yellow feet and beak, and his iconic red feathers that reach around his eyes and over the top of his head. This Pen-Pen was created in a simplistic, yet cute art style to make it incredibly cute and loveable. It is also made and stuffed with polyester to make it cuddly and huggable. Although it could simply make a wonderful decoration for one’s room, this extra-large plush could also make a great pillow or a bed buddy to share a nap with. It is nearly an entire foot and a half tall and over a foot wide, making it incredibly easy for someone to really wrap their arms around it.

About Evangelion

The Evangelion series began with Neon Genesis Evangelion, which was originally broadcast to televisions all across Japan starting in October 1995 and aired until March that next year. It quickly caught the attention of many fans due to its interesting mecha designs, appealing characters, and complex, unconventional methods of storytelling. The narrative itself focuses on the internal and external struggles of Shinji Ikari and the other pilots of the Evangelion Units, large mechas used to destroy Angels.

Since only a very small number of people can pilot these Eva units, these middle schoolers are tasked with saving humanity from complete extermination. This puts an unbelievable amount of stress and expectations on the adolescents, and their resulting struggles helps drive the narrative along. Because the series ended up being rather successful, several theatrically released films were released and, more recently, a movie series acting like a complete overhaul of the original series called the Rebuild of Evangelion began and is set to finish with the fourth film, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, in June 2020. With the reimagining of the original series nearly at its climax, Evangelion continues to thrive around the entire world and shows no signs of stopping.
