About Loki

Loki is the God of Mischief and the brother of Thor. He constantly struggles with being overshadowed by his brother Thor, leading to his enmity with Thor.

About Loki : Background

Loki was born as the son of Laufey, Frost Giant King. However, he was considered small and weak for a Frost Giant and abandoned his biological father. Luckily, he was found by King Odin, who transforms Loki’s appearance and raises him as his son alongside his biological son Thor. As a child, Loki felt overshadowed by his brother, Thor, and was envious of him and his right to become king.

Loki was seemingly carefree and calm; however, constantly living in his brother’s shadow leads to his dark personality. Loki slowly becomes calculated, cold, and ambitious in achieving his goals. His character changes for the worse as he starts going to great lengths to achieve his goals, with zero care for the consequences. He was also very adamant about humiliating and hurting Thor in any way possible. His dark personality is also a result of his abandonment. While growing up, Loki believed that he was an actual Prince of Asgard and thought he had a right to be king. However, when his real parentage was revealed, he felt betrayed and felt that his father only saw him as nothing more than a trophy.

Despite his dark personality, he does show moments of care for his family members. Mostly towards his adopted mother, Frigga. When informed of his mother's death, he is overcome with grief and destroys everything in his sight. However, Loki was also able to put aside his differences and team with Thor to avenge his mother.

About Loki: Abilities

Many of Loki’s abilities are due to his Frost Giant Heritage. As a result, he possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and reflexes, creating the powerful combatant. Loki’s superhuman strength is so powerful that he can overpower multiple S.H.I.E.L.D agents and Captain America with minimal effort. In combat, he has shown numerous times that he can withstand attacks from different heroes with very little actual damage inflicted on himself. While he may be inferior to Thor, strength-wise, he is faster than Thor and utilizes his speed to gain the upper hand in combat.

Loki also can use Asgardian magic as his adoptive mother Frigga taught him. He has complete control of Asgardian magic, and only exceptionally skilled sorcerers can contend with his magical abilities. Notably, we see Loki create illusions, conceal his presence or manipulate others' minds to help gain the upper hand and get what he wants.

Other Important Marvel Comics Characters

The God of Mischief and rival of Thor, Loki, is portrayed as both the supervillain and antihero. Loki is one of the villains that recurs throughout the MCU universe and has many unique relationships with different characters.

Thor Odinson

Thor is Loki’s older brother. Throughout Loki’s life, he has always felt inferior to Thor. As a result, he becomes very determined to beat Thor and ruin his becoming King. His inferiority complex leads to his ambition and determination to destroy and humiliate Thor. While Loki seems not to forgive Thor, he does show moments of kindness towards his family members, especially his mother. The two brothers could put their differences aside to avenge his mother, Frigga’s, death.

Iron Man/Tony Stark

Iron Man and Loki first meet when Loki and Captain America battle each other in Germany. The two stand as enemies to each other. The two have a moment together where Tony warns that Loki should be afraid of the Avengers. However, Loki dismisses this and states that he planned to anger the Avengers to come after him. Despite his abilities and powers, he is defeated and, in the end, asks if he could get the drink that Tony offered him earlier on in the film.
