Naruto is a manga that was written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It was first published on the 21st of September 1999 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump and gained popularity. The unique storytelling of ninjas fighting with extraordinary abilities attracted many fans. Out of the many characters that appear, Shikamaru Nara is a popular character. He is a lazy but extremely intelligent ninja. Many products of Shikamaru have been released and one popular product includes the Nendoroid figure "Nendoroid Naruto Shippuden Shikamaru Nara".

Nendoroid Naruto Shippuden Shikamaru Nara

From the Nendoroid line is the lazy shinobi Shikamaru Nara. The figure shows Shikamaru from the Shippuden series where he has been promoted to jonin. He wears his usual outfit of a dark-colored top and pants with the green jonin jacket on top. On his arm is the forehead protector which shows the Konoha emblem.

Shikamaru comes with three different faceplates. One shows a serious face with his eyebrows furrowed. Another expression shows a crying face that he has when his dearly respected teacher dies. The last expression is Shikamaru's usual face as he looks very relaxed and lazy. There are also various optional parts to recreate the fans' favorite scenes. Shikamaru can hold his teacher's lighter, he can also be posed with his signature shadow ability as well as alternate arm parts.

About Shikamaru Nara: Background

From a young age, Shikamaru is known to be a very lazy child and takes frequent naps. Instead of playing ninja with the other children his age, Shikamaru would rather lie down on the ground and watch the clouds float by. While cloud watching he became best friends with Chouji Akimichi who would often join him.

Shikamaru would often take naps during class as he was very lazy and wasn’t interested in the lessons. His poor efforts caused him to have very bad grades just like Naruto Uzumaki. He has often stated that he wants to live a normal life, have a family, raise a child, then die as an unremarkable shinobi. When things are complicated and seem to be hard work, Shikamaru would often say "troublesome" and try to avoid it.

Despite calling himself a coward and wanting to run away when things get difficult, Shikamaru is a very loyal person. He wants to do the best he can for his teammates and his teacher. One of the reasons why he is best friends with Chouji is because Shikamaru sees past people's appearances. He cares about the personality and finds the value of the person.

When his teacher, Asuma Sarutobi dies on a mission together, Shikamaru regrets it heavily. He believes if he was more organized and prepared things would have ended differently. Due to his negligence, the teacher he greatly respected is no longer alive. Shikamaru matures greatly due to the loss and vows to be better for future generations.

About Shikamaru Nara: Abilities

As Shikamaru is the heir of the Nara clan he has been trained in the clan techniques. The Nara clan are able to manipulate their shadows to attack or restrain their enemies. One of his signature abilities is the shadow imitation technique. By connecting his shadow to the opponent he is able to control their movements by forcing them to mimic his own movements.

Shikamaru is also a genius in regards to tactics. His teacher disguised numerous intelligence tests in the form of puzzles and games and discovered Shikamaru had an IQ of 200. Due to his laziness with formal tests, his true intelligence lay hidden. When Tsunade Senju becomes the Fifth Hokage she regularly uses Shikamaru for his intellect. Shikamaru understands the limits of his own abilities as well as his allies, allowing him to come up with precise plans. He is able to think multiple moves ahead of his opponents and piece together information that might seem useless to come up with brilliant tactics.

At the start, Naruto is dead last and very behind on his studies with low test scores. However, as the story progresses Naruto becomes stronger and learns how to use his strength properly, gaining the trust and respect of his fellow shinobi.

Sakura Haruno

Sakura Haruno graduates to become a genin at the same time as Shikamaru but due to her dismal skills, Shikamaru only thinks of her as an unremarkable kunoichi. However, under the guidance of Tsunade Senju, Sakura grows and becomes a kunoichi with excellent skills and is able to fight on the frontlines.
