Synopsis

7 Seeds: a project to prevent humanity’s extinction. When the government learns of a giant meteorite on a collision course with Earth the likes of which will produce a global extinction event, they select five groups of young men and women to be cryogenically frozen and awoken after the disaster has passed to live on as humanity’s sole survivors in an unfamiliar world.

A young girl named Natsu awakens to find herself on a deserted island along with several others, including a man calling himself their guide. An untamed jungle stretches out before them filled with gigantic vegetation and deadly animals, and they soon find themselves fighting for survival in this post-apocalyptic world bare of any other human life.

Background

7 Seeds is a manga series by Yumi Tamura that began serialization in Shogakukan’s shoujo manga magazine Betsucomi in November 2001. In March 2002, the series moved to Flowers where it was serialized until its conclusion in 2017. A total of 35 collected tankobon volumes have been published for the series. A spin-off manga titled 7 Seeds Gaiden was also created by Tamura and ran from August to October 2017.

The series has also been adapted into a radio drama that was broadcast in Japan from December 2003 to February 2004. The radio drama lasted nine episodes and was collected into three CDs.

An anime adaptation was announced in November 2018. The series is being animated by Gonzo with Yukio Takahashi directing, Touko Machida writing the script, and Youko Sato handling character designs. The ending theme song will be "Wish” by Majiko. Originally scheduled to premiere in April 2019, the anime has been pushed back to June 2019 due to production delays. The anime will be available worldwide via Netflix.

Summer B Team

Natsu Iwashimizu (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)

Natsu is 16 and extremely introverted and withdrawn. She is originally from Saitama and she had a cat named Nuts. She becomes essential to the team’s survival by keeping record of what they discover including what foods are edible.

Arashi Aota (Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama)

Arashi is 17 and originally from Tokyo. He used to be the ace of his school’s swim team and had his sights set on the Olympics. He is afraid of bugs. Compassionate and kind, he acts as Natsu’s protector.

Semimaru Asai (Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi)

Semimaru is 18 and originally from Hamamatsu, Shizuoka. He was raised by his single mom. Though a bad-mouthed delinquent, he cares for others. He enjoys picking on Natsu but actually cares about her and wants her to be happy.

Botan Saotome (Voiced by: Yoko Somi)

The guide of Summer B Team, Botan is a former police officer. She is nicknamed “Botan Nee-san.” She used to be married with a child on the way, but she lost the child after being hit by a drunk driver. Highly decisive, she holds abundant survival knowledge and is skilled in self-defense.

Matsuri Tendo (Voiced by: Kana Asumi)

Matsuri is 16 and comes from a family of farmers. She has a cheerful and sociable personality.

Chimaki Yamori (Voiced by: Akira Ishida)

A first-year college student from Kumamoto, Chimaki is 19. She is particularly skilled at carving and painting, and she tends to move at her own pace.

Hotaru Kusakuri (Voiced by: Aoi Yuki)

A bright girl with good intuition, Hotaru is 12. She can always accurately predict the weather.

Kaname Mozunoto (Voiced by: Kazuhiko Inoue)

A mysterious man of unknown age, Kaname is a born survivalist who usually goes by the name Mozu.

Spring Team

Hana Sugurono (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)

Hana is 17 and originally from Tokyo. She has a determined personality and is skilled in survival knowledge thanks to her father. She is also good at rock climbing.

Haru Yukima (Voiced by: Hirofumi Nojima)

Haru is 16 and comes from a family of musicians. He is a skilled pianist and has perfect pitch. He is intelligent but snobby and standoffish.

Mansaku Tsunomata (Voiced by: Ryotaro Okiaku)

Mansaku is 18 and originally from Kansai. He has a laid-back personality and enjoys meditation and poetry. He is also skilled in archery.

Hibari Niigusa (Voiced by: Eri Kitamura)

A 12-year-old girl, Hibari remains in a coma after the others awaken from their cryogenic sleep due to a failure in her regeneration stage.

Chisa Taiami (Voiced by: Mamiko Noto)

Chisa is 18 and originally from Kanazawa, Ishikawa. She comes from a prestigious family with high political influence and is polite and obedient.

Momotaro Nobi (Voiced by: Ryo Hirohashi)

Originally from Sendai, Miyagi, Momotaro is a 12 year old genius with exceptional memory. His nickname is “Nobita-kun.”

Fujiko Amacha (Voiced by: Shizuka Ito)

Fujiko is 17 and originally from Ibaraki. She is close friends with Hana and wants to become a doctor.

Tosei Yanagi (Voiced by: Hisao Egawa)

Spring Team’s guide, Tosei is of unknown age and is a former member of Japan’s Self-Defense Force. He has strong leadership capabilities and feels deeply responsible for the team’s safety.

Fall Team

Ran Shishigaki (Voiced by: Mayumi Asano)

A former architect student, her exact age is unknown but she seems to be a bit older than the others. She commands Fall Team together with Akiwo.

Akiwo Haza (Voiced by: Kenta Miyake)

A famous venture capitalist who studied abroad in America and is fluent in English and Spanish, Akiwo is the leader of Fall Team along with Ran.

Kurumi Shikano (Voiced by: Ai Kakuna)

A kind and gentle girl, Kurumi used to live on a farm in New Zealand.

Ryusei Ogiwara (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa)

A young man who cares greatly for Kurumi.

Akane Nashimoto (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)

A skilled diver, Akane has a sharp intuition and is close friends with Kurumi. She is also attracted to Summer A Team’s Gengoro.

Sakuya Yamaki (Voiced by: Daisuke Sakaguchi)

A young man who aspired to pass the bar exam, Sakuya has photogenic memory and serves as a secretary for Ran and Akiwo.

Hazuki Karita (Voiced by: Takanori Hoshino)

A young man who is an Olympic-class judo fighter, Hazuki is obedient and honest.

Ryoya Izayoi (Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda)

Fall Team’s guide, Ryoya is a former firefighter from Tohoku.
