Synopsis
Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki focuses on the life of Monaka Yatogame,a girl who speaks in a blunt Nagoya dialect, and highlights the differences in modern customs of Nagoya and Aichi.
Background
Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki began as a four-panel manga by Masaki Ando posted to Twitter. Due to its popularity it was picked up for serialization in Comic Rex in July 2016. The series’ main heroine, Monaka Yatogame, was appointed Nagoya’s Tourism Cultural Exchange Mission Ambassador on Feb. 27, 2017.
An anime adaptation of the series directed by Hisayoshi Hirasawa, with scripts by WORDS in STEREO and character designs by Satsuki Hayasaka will premiere in Japan in April 2019. The anime is being produced by Saetta with cooperation by Creators in Pack and LEVELS.
Characters
Kaito Jin (Voiced by: Mitsuhiro Ichiki)
The main protagonist of the story, Kaito is a second-year high school student who moves to Aichi from Tokyo. He begins to feel drawn in by Nagoya’s culture after joining the photography club and meeting Monaka. Although he tries to be good friends with Monaka, he is always getting angry at her over her blunt way of talking.
Monaka Yatogame (Voiced by: Haruka Tomatsu)
The heroine of the story and a first-year student in high school, Monaka is a member of the photography club. She wears a carp hairband in her pointed yellow hair. Keen and agile, she often climbs to high places. She talks in a blunt Nagoya dialect and is a Nagoya native through and through who praises Nagoya’s culture.
Mai Tadakusa (Voiced by: Yuki Wakai)
A first-year high school student, Mai has long black hair and wears a fisherman’s hat. She is from Gifu Prefecture. She is a member of the photography club and classmates with Monaka, whom she adores and often makes the subject of her photos. Though she is from Gifu, she is quite acquainted with the culture of Nagoya.
Yanna Sasatsu (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)
The president of the photography club and Kaito’s classmate, Yanna is known for her twintails that look like lobster legs and speaks with a Mie dialect. She has a habit of passing out from getting too excited. She surprises her classmates by how much she slacks off at school.
