Synopsis
Arata Miyako is a new member of the Shinjuku Ward Office Nighttime Regional Relations Department, a department that specializes in solving occult-related incidents and is established in all 23 wards of Tokyo. Arata has the special ability of being able to understand non-human speech, and one night he encounters a yokai in Shinjuku Gyoen park that calls him by a peculiar name, that of famous Japanese occultist Abe no Seimei.
Background
Midnight Occult Civil Servants is a supernatural manga by Yoko Tamotsu that launched in Kadokawa’s Asuka magazine in May 2015. It is also serialized on the Comic Newtype website. As of June 2018, eight collected tankobon volumes have been published.
The anime adaptation is being directed by Tetsuya Watanabe at Liden Films with Tatsuto Higuchi penning the script and Eriko Ito handling the character designs. Jun Fukuyama will perform the opening theme song, “Dis-communicate,” while Shunichi Toki will perform the ending theme song, "Yakusoku no Overture.” The anime will premiere in Japan on April 7, 2019.

A new member of Shinjuku’s Nighttime Regional Relations Department, Arata is 22 years old. He has an ability that lets him understand non-human speech.
Kyoichi Sakaki (Voiced by: Tomoaki Maeno)
The leader of Shinjuku’s Nighttime Regional Relations Department, Kyoichi is 28. He is a former host who loves women and booze, but is diligent about his work. He still feels a feeling of loss over an incident that happened 10 years ago.
Theo Himezuka (Voiced by: Miyu Irino)
A member of Shinjuku’s Nighttime Regional Relations Department, Theo is 38. At first glance he may be mistaken for a female, but he is an Englishman with androgynous looks. He has a growing collection of occult books. His life’s work is collecting samples and data from Another. He believes there is no other alternative then to develop anti-Another items.
Reiji Senda (Voiced by: Koji Yusa)
The section head of Shinjuku’s Nighttime Regional Relations Department, Reiji is 37. He was in the same class as Theo.
Satoru Kanoichi (Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai)
A member of Tokyo’s Nighttime Culture & Environment Department
Huehuecóyotl (Voiced by: Shunichi Toki)
An Another who follows around Arata and calls him “Abe no Seimei.” She has long black hair and eyes that sparkle gold.
Yuki (Voiced by: Kazutomi Yamamoto)
A white cat with blue eyes and two tails, Yuki grew up with Arata and used to play with him often when he was a boy.
