Synopsis

The boys are back! B-Project: Zeccho Emotion picks up where the first season leaves off. The anime starts with a performance to celebrate the new year. Still together with their A&R, Tsubasa Sumisora, the second season is sure to bring new musical hits, new drama between group members, and the inclusion of the fourth idol group to B-Project, KiLLER KiNG.

Background

B-Project is a music-focused Japanese multimedia project by MAGES. that began in 2015. The series follows four idol groups: MooNs, Kitakore, THRIVE, and KiLLER KiNG. A variety of music has been released since the project’s start, including 21 singles and two albums. To announce music releases, several live events have been held for the series including Happy Summer Eastar, King of Caste, Brilliant Party, Love & Art Family MTG 2017, Dark in the Halloweeeen, and Winter of Fantasia. Aside from the music releases, the series spans an anime adaptation, manga adaptation, rhythm game, radio show, and stage play.

The first release in the series was the web radio show B-Project Radio: Gandara Broadband which premiered on Sep. 7, 2015 on Nico Video. The show is regularly used as a platform for making special announcements including special broadcasts and events. A total of 38 installments have aired as of October 2018.

A stage play titled “B-Project on Stage: Over the Wave!” was held in Japan from July 28 to Aug. 17, 2017. A second run of the play, titled “Over the Wave! Remix,” was announced in January 2018 and held from Feb. 22 to March 3, 2018.

A mobile game titled B-Project: Muteki Dangerous was released on Aug. 6, 2016. The game is a rhythm action game in which players perform songs from B-Project with characters they have recruited, and it also includes a story mode with visual novel-style gameplay. Originally managed by S&P, the game moved to MAGES. in March 2018.

A manga adaptation titled B-Project: Mousou*Scandal by Morino Mizu was announced in April 2016 and began serialization in Shogakukan’s Cheese! magazine the following month. Focusing mainly on the units THRIVE and KiLLER KiNG, the manga lasted six chapters and ran from May to October 2016.

The first anime adaptation, titled B-Project: Kodou Ambitious, was announced by MAGES. at the event AnimeJapan in March 2016. The anime premiered in Japan on July 3 and ended on Sep. 25, 2016, lasting a total of 12 episodes. Staff included Eiji Suganuma as director, series composition by Deko Akao, character designs by Toshie Kawamura who adapted Utako Yukihiro’s original designs for animation, and music by Masato Nakayama. The opening theme song is “Kodou*Ambitious” by B-Project and it’s three ending theme songs are “Hoshi to Tsuki no Sentence” by Kitakore, “Starlight” by THRIVE, and “Yume Miru Power” by MooNs. In addition to special cameos including series producer and songwriter Takanori Nishikawa, the anime features unique characters that don’t appear in any other B-Project media.

The sequel to the first anime, titled B-Project: Zeccho Emotion, will premiere in Japan in January 2019.

MooNs

Hikaru Osari (Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo)

Hikaru is cheerful and fun-loving. He likes to tease others and eats bananas. It is revealed in the first season that he has a certain condition.

Tatsuhiro Nome (Voiced by: Genki Okawa)

Tatsuhiro is the quiet type. He’s teased by Hikaru as a “muscle-bound idiot.” He is somewhat awkward with the ladies.

Kazuna Masunaga (Voiced by: Yuto Uemura)

Kazuna acts like a prince and cares deeply about his friends. The others call him their leader but he reluctantly accepts the title.

Momotaro Onzai (Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara)

Momotaro is the kind of person who’s hard to read, as he doesn’t show his emotions much. He gets along well with the rest of the group, especially Mikado Sekimura. He can see spirits.

Mikado Sekimura (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda

Mikado is kind to Tsubasa. He doesn’t have a great relationship with his parents. He loves Mamirin, Akihabara, and wearing pajamas.

Kitakore

Ryuji Korekuni (Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio)

Ryuji seems unfriendly at first but he’s just shy and has trouble expressing himself. He’s easily embarrassed. He likes to express himself with stickers and emojis to Tomohisa.

Tomohisa Kitakado (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)

Tomohisa is kind and caring, but tends to lack common sense. He likes to buy things for others to show he cares but goes overboard sometimes. He’s protective of Ryuji.

THRIVE

Goshi Kaneshiro (Voiced by: Toshiyuki Toyonaga)

Goshi has a temper problem and doesn’t always like to conform to others’ rules. He sticks up for his band mates when they’re in a jam. His love of rock music influences some of THRIVE’s songs.

Kento Aizome (Voiced by: Kazuki Kato)

Kento is the playboy type. He hides his true feelings behind his charm. He loves being an idol for the attention because of his abandonment issues from childhood.

Yuta Ashu (Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae)

Yuta is the positive and energetic one of his group. He defuses tense situations and can seem ditzy at times. He likes gaming.

KiLLER KiNG

Yuzuki Teramitsu (Voiced by: Kotaro Nishiyama)

Yuzuki is Haruhi’s older brother. When Haruhi was sick growing up, Yuzuki would bring him four-leaf clovers to cheer him up. He’s the shy and quiet type.

Haruhi Teramitsu (Voiced by: Taku Yashiro)

Haruhi is much more extroverted than his brother, Yuzuki. He loves watching movies.

Akane Fudo (Voiced by: Shoya Chiba)

Akane is talkative, cute, and can be perverse. He calls everyone in the group by pet names he made up. He likes muscle training.

Miroku Shingari (Voiced by: Takuya Eguchi)

Miroku is the quiet and stoic type. Like Akane, he loves muscle training and cares about his muscles. He’s the youngest member in all of B-Project.

Anime-only Characters

Tsubasa Sumisora (Voiced by: Asami Seto)

The new A&R to B-Project, she oversees every group. She does everything she can to support them. The boys take a liking to her. At the end of last season, they tell her they want to continue working with her.

Sakurato Yashamaru (Voiced by: Kousuke Toriumi)

Sakurato is Tsubasa’s boss and the company director of Gandala Music. He loves B-Project and wants the unit to succeed.
