Synopsis
Hikari Tsutsui was a socially awkward third-year high school otaku who kept his distance from others. But one day, he’s asked out by his classmate, the gorgeous Iroha Igarashi. The unlikely couple start dating and face a number of obstacles to their romantic relationship but somehow manage to stick together. 3D Kanojo Real Girl Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off and turns the emotion and comedy up a notch!
Background
Real Girl began as a manga by Mao Nanami that was serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine from July 2011 to May 2016. Twelve collected tankobon volumes have been released in Japan, and Kodansha Comics has also publishing the manga digitally in English.
The first season of the anime adaptation was announced in November 2017. The series has handled by Hoods Entertainment with Takashi Naoya directing, Deko Akao in charge of scripts, and Satomi Kurita handling character designs. It ran for 12 episodes total and aired in Japan from April 4 to June 20, 2018 during Nippon TV’s AnichU programming block. The anime is licensed in English by Sentai Filmworks.
The second season of the anime was via an official website June 19, 2018 and is schedule to begin airing in January 2019. Hoods Entertainment is once again producing with many of the same staff from season 1 returning.
Characters
Hikari Tsutsui (Voiced by: Teppei Uenishi)
A third-year student who reaches the heights of unpopularity in his school. He decides not to have any relationships with others. However, Iroha Igarashi meets him and takes a shine to him, and the two give having a relationship a try.
Iroha Igarashi (Voiced by: Yu Serizawa)
A girl with a heart of gold and the looks to match. She’s often late and considered a troublemaker. She begins to like Tsutsui and the two start dating.
Yuto Ito (Voiced by: Shouta Aoi)
Tsutsui’s only friend. He roots for Tsutsui’s relationship and hopes for one of his own one day.
Mitsuya Takanashi (Voiced by: Takuma Terashima)
A popular male student who has the hots for Igarashi. He can’t understand why she and the unpopular Tsutsui are a couple.
Arisa Ishino (Voiced by: Minami Tsuda)
A female student at Tsutsui’s school who gives him love advice. At first, she finds Tsutsui annoying, but the two grow to be friends.
Sumie Ayado (Voiced by: Reina Ueda)
A female otaku who is interested in Tsutsui but also idolizes Igarashi.
Ezomichi (Voiced by: Sayaka Kanda)
A fictional character is Tsutsui’s favorite anime series. Tsutsui imagines talking to her for advice, kind of like his conscience in a physical form.
