Synopsis

In the world of Aikatsu Planet! anyone can become a super cute idol! Mao Otoha is an extremely ordinary high school girl who goes to Seirei Private High School until one day when she takes on the role of top idol Hana after Hana’s previous alter ego, Meisa Hinata, suddenly disappears. However, the fact that Mao is now Hana is a secret to everyone! Using Swing cards and the powers of Dressia, Mao takes the stage as Hana to take on her rivals in fierce battles onstage as she aims to become a top idol!

Background

Aikatsu Planet! is the fifth series in the cross-media project Aikatsu! which is part of Bandai’s Data Carddass arcade trading card game series. The game was launched in arcades in Japan in December 2020 and is the sequel to Aikatsu!, Aikatsu Stars!, Aikatsu Friends!, and Aikatsu on Parade!. The TV adaptation is a hybrid mix of animation and live-action (a first for the series) and is being produced by BN Pictures. It features Ryuichi Kimura as chief director, Misuzu Chiba as series composer, and Risa Miyadani as character designer, with Cher Watanabe, Kei Tsuda, and Takamitsu Ono in charge of the music. It was originally planned to air from October 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now set to premiere in Japan on January 10.

Mao Otoha / Hana (Voiced by: Kaya Date)
Mao is a first-year student at Seirei Private High School. She is a cheerful and positive girl who gives everything she tries her all. She used to dance ballet when she was younger. She becomes the top idol Hana after Hana’s previous alter ego, Meisa Hinata, goes missing. She often hangs out with her childhood friend, Shiori Motoya.

Ruli Tamaki / Ruli (Voiced by: Rio Ogura)
Ruli is a first-year student at Seirei Private High School. She has a bright personality and never backs down from going after what she wants. She loves cute things and fashion, and she produces the fashion brand MELTY HOUSE in Aikatsu Planet!. She is friendly and sociable with everyone she meets. Her idol avatar is Ruli.

Ayumi Tsukishiro / Q-pit (Voiced by: Mizuki)
Ayumi is a second-year student at Seirei Private High School. She is hardworking and known as Hana’s rival in Aikatsu Planet!. She used to play piano when she was younger and has perfect pitch. Her idol avatar is Q-pit.

Kyoko Umekoji / Beat (Voiced by: Shizune Nagao)
Kyoko is a second-year student at Seirei Private High School. She has a mature, refined image and acts with grace and poise. She is an ojou-sama who has excelled at academics since she was a kid. She has a refined beauty and an excellent sense of style. Her idol avatar is Beat.

Shiori Motoya / Shiori (Voiced by: Rion Watanabe)
Shiori is a first-year student at Seirei Private High School. She is serious and studious, and will take the time to thoroughly research anything that catches her interest. She is also Mao’s childhood friend. Her idol avatar is Shiori.

Ann Krimm / Ann (Voiced by: Amy)
Ann is a second-year middle school student. She has a fluffy and cute personality. She also loves sweets and is skilled at making her own candy. Her idol avatar is Ann.

Meisa Hinata / Rose (Voiced by: Narumi Uno)
Meisa was formerly Hana and held the top spot on the Aikatsu! rankings. She disappeared suddenly at the height of her popularity. She likes karaoke, spicy food, and coffee. Her idol avatar is now Rose.

Sala Itoi / Sala (Voiced by: Rurika Uno)
Sala loves dresses and is a very popular dressmaker who designs for Starlet Promotions. She has an older sister type of personality and is always there to offer support to her fellow idols. Her idol avatar is Sala.
