Synopsis

When people come down with mysterious diseases due to something strange entering the mind and manifesting itself in the body, there is one doctor they can turn to to cure them and stop their suffering. His name is Ramune. Though he is rude, foul-mouthed, and looks nothing like a doctor, there is no one better at being able to quickly find the root cause of any disease, even those modern medicine can’t cure!

Background

Dr. Ramune: Mysterious Disease Specialist is a manga series written and illustrated by Aho Toro that began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in September 2017 before moving to the Magazine Pocket manga app in August 2018.

An anime adaptation was announced in September 2020. It is being produced by Platinum Vision and features Hideaki Oba (Bakuon!!, Case Closed, Dr. Stone) as director with Ayumu Hisao (Ace Attorney, Aikatsu Friends!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) handling the scripts, Yoko Sato (Dog & Scissors, Pipopapo Patrol-kun, Saiyuki Reload Blast) handling the character designs, Toshimitsu Kobayashi (Aoharu x Machinegun, Fate/stay night, Servamp) handling the sub-character designs, and Tetsuro Oda (Armored Trooper Votoms, Dragon Ball GT, Mushibugyo) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Shake! Shake! Shake!” by Yuma Uchida, and the ending theme song is “Arukashia” by saji. The anime premiered on Jan. 9 on Tokyo MX and BS11. It is available to stream overseas through Crunchyroll.

Characters

Ramune (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
Ramune is a doctor who specializes in treating mysterious diseases. He has a foul mouth, is rude toward most people, and rarely reads the atmosphere around him. However, he is a skilled doctor who can quickly find the root cause of a disease. He puts his patients first and tries not to treat them too harshly.

Kuro (Voiced by: Takuma Nagatsuka)
Kuro is a middle school student and disciple of Ramune who works as his assistant. He has good judgment and motor skills, and also has a poker face that makes it difficult to understand his mood. He trusts Ramune’s skills as a doctor.

Ayame (Voiced by: Kana Ueda)
Ayame is the former owner of Mysterious Wares Shop Akatsuki who is able to create mysterious wares herself. Though she is currently a 9-year-old elementary school student, she retains memories of her past in which she lived to be 103. Though she is very helpful, she also has an aggressive side and likes to provoke people. She tends to take risks when she knows she can win.

Nico (Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto)
Nico is the current owner of Mysterious Wares Shop Akatsuki and is Ayame’s great-grandson from her previous life. He is very mild-mannered and always has a smile on his face. He is popular with the local kids who call him “Niconico Man.” He has known Ramune since they were kids and considered him to be a brother. Due to a certain condition, he is able to see his surroundings better than anyone else.

Momiji (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
Momoji is Ramune’s teacher. He is a handsome man who is the most skilled at treating mysterious diseases. He enjoys tormenting people and has a particularly strict attitude toward Ramune. Due to having no sense of direction, he is always accompanied by the mystery pet he created to be his guide, Pipopo.
