OtapediaPoPiPo (song by Hatsune Miku)

"PoPiPo" (ぽっぴっぽー), known by its official English title as "Vegetable Juice" was released on December 11, 2008, and was composed by Lamaze-P. Hatsune Miku sings about vegetable juice and how amazing it is to her. "PoPiPo" is one of Hatsune Miku's most popular songs due to the nature of its theme and has spawned various memes and fanmade videos.

Background

"PoPiPo" has a catchy, denpa-style melody. Hatsune Miku chooses a specific type of juice ("big pale blue juice") as her favorite and is recommending it to the listener.
Although the song was popular on Nico Nico Douga, with 2.6 million views, on YouTube it has become far more successful, with the top three most viewed uploads of the song having a combined 11 million views. It has since become one of the most listened to songs from the early Hatsune Miku boom era.

With the global success of "PoPiPo", Lamaze-P composed derived character Teto's version (ぽっぴっぽーMk-Ⅱ (Popipo MK-II)), Hatsune Miku's English Version of the PoPiPo, Luka's Version, and Rin's Version. It soon became apparent that the song would turn into a meme. Various fan-made videos were made using the song which featured cosplayers dancing to the melody or singers covering the song.
Both the Japanese and English versions of Miku's PoPiPo have appeared in the Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- series games.

In the officially approved English lyrics, she sings that she is a "happy vegetarian" which gave rise to the fanbase accepting Miku as one as part of the character's attributes. However, this was somewhat challenged when the American branch of the Toyota collaboration showed Miku wanting to try (and eventually buying) a bacon-wrapped hot dog. Fans worldwide shunned the idea that Miku would enjoy such junk food.

The song has appeared on the following albums:

  • Vocalostar (two-verse version)
  • Hatsune Miku Best ~impacts~ (two verse version)
  • THE! COMPLETE BEST of LamazeP (two-verse version)
  • SUPER PRODUCERS BEAT ft. Ryu☆ remix

and has appeared in the following concerts:

Additionally, PoPiPo has also appeared in the following music games:

Family Mart

During the first Family Mart loves Hatsune Miku campaign in 2012, vegetable juice was sold at 300 yen (differing from the 200 yen quoted in the song's lyrics). The packaging of the juice was covered with the Hatsune Miku illustration that was used in the song and it proved to be one of the most popular menu items of the event. Family Marts nationwide were frequently sold out of the juice during the campaign's lifespan. The juice itself was green in color even though the lyrics stated "big pale blue juice". It was generally accepted that blue juice would be unappealing to the general public.
Additionally, Lamaze-P would often tweet or retweet posts that showed photos of the juice, often commenting at how he was so amazed at the amount of love received for his song.
