OtapediaUtsu-P (Vocaloid producer)

Utsu-P (born December 1, 1990) is a Japanese musician who hails from Nagoya and currently resides in Setagaya.
In June, 2008, Utsu-P started producing music. His musical style features heavy use of shouts which is often difficult to express in the Vocaloid software, while also incorporating a loud rock sound with catchy melodies which are often in conflict with each other.

About the Artist

When he was 13 years old, his best friend declared to him "I'm going to play the guitar, so you play the bass!" to which he agreed.
At the age of 15, he formed a 4-member hardcore band that was focused on short tunes and melodies.
Although he was keen to practice, he was unable to properly rehearse and was disappointed in leaving the Nagoya hardcore scene without making his mark on the industry. After that, he considered making more serious songs and began working with the Vocaloid software in the summer when he was 17 years old.
In 2013, he started performing as a DJ and in 2015 he created "Ohayou Gozaimasu Band" or "Good Morning Band".
He is not signed with any label and is proud to work for himself. He has mentioned on live streams that he finds the Japanese rock band B'z and the American rock band SYSTEM OF A DOWN to be his top two most influential bands. From his lyrics, there are also homages paid to the indie sounds of Kenji Ootsuki. Of the CDs he has published independently, "DOLL", "DIARRHEA", "TRAUMATIC", "P", "PSYCHODRAMA", "Poison (doku)", only "P" is sold as a downloadable album.
The name of his doujin circle is "MY SONG IS SHIT" which seems to have been named after the Japanese rock band "YOUR SONG IS GOOD". The circle's logo is self-made by Utsu-P and he regularly sells T-shirts with the logo at events.

He frequently produces music and his songs are popular at live events. Even on days that he performs, he was always glad to chat with fans.

Utsu-P can also play the bass, and he performs all the guitar and bass in his music by himself. He used to upload videos to Nico Nico Douga of him wearing a giraffe mask and playing the guitar in an eccentric manner. He refers to this part of himself as "Manic Depression-P" (Soujoutai Utsu-P).
Utsu-P works with a large number of artists who collaborate with him to work on CD jacks and videos for his songs.

Utsu-P and Hatsune Miku

Utsu-P's main Vocaloids are Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, and GUMI. His style of music consists of heavy rock instrumentals with Vocaloids that rap, shout, or scream over it. He chose his producer name after realizing that the lyrics he wrote were always gloomy (Utsu means depression in Japanese). In his uploads, Utsu-P would use the tag VOCALOUD a portmanteau of Vocaloid and loud to illustrate that his music featured so-called loud rock melodies. He also oversaw the compilation of VOCALOID LOUD PROJECT which was based on the concept of VOCALOUD and its first album V.L.P sold out with mostly positive reviews.
On April 28, 2012, he released his 3rd album MOKSHA at THE VOC@LOID Super M@STER 20 event that was held at Nico Nico Chokaigi in Chiba, Japan. There are still copies of his albums available for rental at TSUTAYA stores nationwide.

Utsu-P has over a dozen songs reach 100,000 views on Nico Nico Douga and continues to produce more music. His YouTube channel has 47,000 subscribers yet his total channel view count exceeds 5 million.

He has been a household name for his use of the VOCALOID Hatsune Miku, but in recent years, he also uses Kagamine Rin, GUMI, and flower in addition to Miku.

Utsu-P is the founder of the band Good Morning (Japanese: おはようございます) of which he is also a member.
