Hiroaki Arai 荒井 洋明 (born August 3, 1983), better known as Signal-P (シグナルP), is a Japanese musician. Having released music as both "Signal-P" and the alias "Dios", he eventually decided to use the combined alias "Dios/Signal-P". Signal-P debuted as an arranger while studying at the Tokyo School of Music. After graduating, he continued working as a composer, arranger, and engineer.

About the Artist

Signal-P learned how to play the piano at an early age and as a junior high school student, he was already writing songs using workstation-type synthesizers instead of computers. He would create a number of tone generator modules connected via MIDI and record the finished output. He had been making music in this way for about three years until he bought the digital audio workstation (DAW) software Cubase because he wanted to use Auto-Tune. He continues to use Cubase to this day.

Signal-P originally only purchased Kagamine Rin/Len in December 2007 in order to test out his songs, but after uploading them to Nico Nico Douga they were well received and viewers started calling him the "Legendary Kagamine Rin/Len Master". His debut song on Nico Nico Douga was "Rin Rin Signal", which eventually led to fans bequeathing him with the producer name of "Signal-P". The song would go on to be one of the most played Len songs for years following its release.
Some of his most prolific works include "Rin Rin Signal", "Transmit", "Cendrillon", Time&Space", and "CHU! me" (translation: Kiss me!).

He also released tracks under the alias "Dios", which had a different style than his works as Signal-P. Although his usage of Rin and Len are considered superior, his release of "Cendrillon" featuring Hatsune Miku and KAITO at the Sendai Hatsune Miku Music Festival confirmed his skills with tuning other Vocaloids. The song reached its first million views on Nico Nico Douga on May 24, 2010 and 3 million views on December 19, 2018. His only other song to have reached the million-view-milestone is "I want to see you" (Aitai) featuring GUMI, which reached its first million on August 18, 2012.
He made his major debut as a Vocaloid producer in 2011, with the release of "EXIT TUNES PRESENTS THE BEST OF Dios/Signal-P", released by the EXIT TUNES label.

His music has a 90s feel, which makes the best use of Rin's voicebank. Although he prefers using the Kagamine Twins for his music, he has also used Hatsune Miku, KAITO, Megurine Luka, GUMI, Tone Rion, Yuzuki Yukari, IA, and other Vocaloids in his songs.
In addition to composing songs, Signal-P has considerable skills in mastering songs and is often commissioned by other musicians to master their songs.

It is common for Signal-P or other human vocalists sing choruses in his Vocaloid-produced music. In 2008, he sang many covers of reknown musician Tetsuya Komuro's songs. However, following Komuro's arrest in November, Signal-P removed all traces of his covers from his social media accounts.

Using his real name, Arai arranged popular singer Nami Tamaki's "Realize" in 2003 making other musicians understand how versatile he is in the music creation process. In his career, he has released over 30 Vocaloid songs and has been involved with composition or mastering for over 50 albums, including many of the "EXIT TUNES PRESENTS" series of CDs by the EXIT TUNES label. His songs frequently appear in rhythm games including the Project DIVA series, and the Bemani series.

Under Hiroaki Arai, he has appeared in hundreds of interviews for magazines including Steinberg Japan
