Coming back as one of DC Comics newest superhero movies, many fell in love with Shazam. From Shazam’s hilarious attitude to the story itself, many were curious as to where the story can go. What many don’t know is that Shazam was the original Captain Marvel. Shazam is currently known for the DC movie that was released in 2012. However, he was originally released as Captain Marvel in 1974. The Shazam story is as dizzying as the character is fast, these figures are rarely seen making them extremely collectible! DC Comics Bishoujo Statue Shazam Family Mary Figure
While not taking away any of the power, a beautiful new figurine has been created! Kotobukiya has done fans a huge favor by making this amazing bishoujo remake of Mary Marvel from the Shazam movie. The Shazam Series Story
Set in Fawcett City, Captain Marvel, or Shazam is the main man in charge! Fighting countless villains and even creating a Marvel Family of Shazam fighters, this story is intense and will draw readers in from the first fight!
Series Overview
Starting from the very beginning, the Superhero Shazam doesn’t even exist! Shazam is an ancient wizard, who uses the Ghost of Billy Batson’s father to guide him to Wizard Shazam’s cave. Once there, Billy Batson was chosen to fight for all things good, all he had to do to become the strongest superhero of all was say his name. SHAZAM. With a bolt of lightning, Billy became the superhero Shazam. The name Shazam is actually an acronym for the great “superhumans” from ancient times. The S is for the wisdom of Solomon, the H is for the strength of Hercules, A is the stamina of Atlas, the Z is the power of Zeus, the second A is the courage of Achilles, and the M is for the speed of Mercury. From there Shazam takes shape as his events begin to shape not only Fawcett City but the world itself!
Series Characters
In addition to the big Shazam himself, he creates a Marvel Family. With Marvel Mary (Shazam Mary) and Captain Marvel Junior. His archnemesis is Black Adam, who ends up killing millions of people in a fit of revenge against mankind. Shazam also has major encounters with Mister Mind and Doctor Sivana.
The Shazam Series Development
While the latest testament to Shazam was released in 2019, nobody has heard any rumors of more adventures. Hopefully, they give the movies another chance, especially after DC revealed the Marvel Family and had an idea of having Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson become Black Adam. Shazam (Captain Marvel) was also in the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us, at least until Superman Killed him.
Series Production
Shazam first appeared in 1940! Shazam was the red-clad superhero who was actually outselling his competition, Superman. Originally released by Fawcett Comics, the release of Shazam (originally Captain Marvel) actually was the downfall of Fawcett Comics. Being a close representation of Superman, DC filed a lawsuit which forced Captain Marvel’s cancellation and closure of the company. Fawcett Comics closure led to Marvel Comics buying the copyright and launching their own Captain Marvel in the 1960s. This second Captain Marvel led to Marvel’s blockbuster movie, Captain Marvel. However, in the 1970s DC began publishing Captain Marvel comics again but under his new name, Shazam.
Series Reception
Receiving a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, the newest Shazam movie was a huge success! With plans for future movies involving Shazam’s archnemesis, Black Adam being in the path we can hope for more action! What is intriguing about future movies in this series is that the director was actually a horror film director. With such an intense and story-rich history as the Shazam story has, we can expect blockbuster movies in the future!
