The World Ends With You (often shortened to TWEWY) is a role-playing game developed by Square Enix and Jupiter that was first released for the Nintendo DS in July 2007. The game was developed by the same team in charge of the Kingdom Hearts series and its gameplay was created to take advantage of the DS’s unique touch screen controls. Many fans praise the series for its intricate battle system and stark, stylized art style, eventually leading to it being a cult hit. The series would become rather stagnant until 2018, where a remastered version of the game titled The World Ends with You -Final Remix- was ported to the Nintendo Switch. Two years later, in 2020, both an anime adaptation of the original game and a sequel titled NEO: The World Ends with You were announced and are currently set to release in 2021. With the popularity of the series on the rise, the demand for merchandise inspired by the game and its characters has increased as well. This is especially true for figures of the series, with the protagonist, Neku Sakuraba, being notably popular. One figure of this character that is particularly desired among fans is Square Enix’s “Bring Arts The World Ends With You -Final Remix- Neku Sakuraba”.

About Neku Sakuraba

Neku Sakuraba is the main protagonist of The World Ends with You. The following is a brief look at the character.

Background

Although Neku was raised in Shibuya all of his life, after waking up in “Underground” - a parallel version of Shibuya - he lost all of his memories, save for his name. At first, he is generally perceived by others to be moody, introverted, and unapproachable. That said, Neku can be quite resourceful under the right conditions, as his fast reactions and flexible body let him take on the volatile nature of the Reapers’ Game much easier than others. As the game progresses, Neku learns to befriend the various people that he meets along the way and eventually comes to be quite compassionate toward them.

Special Abilities

Although every Player has the ability to equip Pins to use Psychs, several characters comment on Neku’s unique ability to equip any Pin and use its respective Psych with ease. Furthermore, Neku also can summon Rhyme’s Noise form, a feat previously thought to be only available to Reapers. In battle, Neku can also perform powerful Fusion attacks with his partners that can harm all enemies on-screen while also healing Neku’s party.

Other Important The World Ends With You Characters

Throughout the game, Neku becomes partners with several characters in order to complete the Reapers’ Game. The following is a brief look into each character that joins Neku.

Shiki Misaki

Shiki is a young girl that eventually becomes Neku’s first partner. Although Neku treated her harshly, she stuck around in order to become closer with him. Even after one of the Reapers offered Neku a way out of the game in exchange for Shiki’s life, she did not hold a grudge against Neku and continued working with him. Before becoming a Player in the Reapers’ Game, Shiki was incredibly jealous of her best friend’s beauty and became dissatisfied with her own appearance. As such, when she became a Player, her “Entry Fee” was her appearance, which resulted in Shiki taking on her friend’s appearance instead.

Joshua

Joshua is Neku’s second partner and is often characterized as being both intelligent and arrogant. His actions throughout the game are always motivated by his own thoughts and beliefs, which he usually keeps hidden to himself. During the second week of the Reapers’ Game, Joshua forces Neku into a pact, which is something only he is shown to be able to do. While working as Neku’s partner, Joshua attempts to push Neku’s introverted personality and distaste for society to its limit in order to make him resent humanity, though Neku eventually comes to disagree with Joshua’s outlook.

Beat

Although Beat is Neku’s third and final partner, he is introduced on the second day of the game’s story as Rhyme’s partner. He is often seen as being brash and tough, he has a compassionate side toward his friends and allies. Before joining the Reapers’ Game, it is shown that Beat and Rhyme are siblings and that Beat had attempted to save Rhyme from a car accident that resulted in both of their deaths. After joining the Reapers’ side following Rhyme’s erasure from the Game, he eventually forms a pact with Neku to save him from being erased himself, which would end the Game as he was the last Player at the time.
