OtapediaShanks One Piece - Figures

There is no series as widely known and highly regarded as the One Piece series, which made its first appearance in Weekly Shonen Jump over two decades ago in 1997. Today, the manga series has had over a thousand chapters that have been serialized. Since the series has such a large and devoted fanbase, it is no surprise that One Piece has a similarly large and diverse selection of merchandise for fans to collect. One such type of merchandise is the collectible figure, which recreates many fan-favorite characters from the series. Shanks is an especially popular character due to being Luffy’s inspiration to one day set sail and become a pirate. Some particularly popular figures of Shanks include the “Ichibansho Figure One Piece Legends Over Time Shanks & Buggy”, the “One Piece Master Stars Piece: Shanks”, and the “One Piece Dramatic Showcase -4th Season- Vol. 1”.

About Shanks

Shanks is one of the Four Emperors and the main inspiration that led to Luffy becoming a pirate. The following is a short overview of his character.

Background

When Shanks was young, he was an apprentice for the infamous Roger Pirates during their final voyage to the end of the grand line. He, along with another apprentice, Buggy, sailed with Gol D. Roger and his crew to many different islands up until their arrival at Zou. Here, Buggy became ill and Shanks decided to stay behind with Buggy before the rest of the crew completed their journey. Shanks would later go on to form the Red-Hair Pirates and become one of the Four Emperors, demonstrating just how powerful he had become since his time as an apprentice.

Special Abilities

As both a former member of the Roger Pirates and one of the Four Emperors, Shanks is recognized as one of the most powerful pirates in the world of One Piece, despite having no Devil Fruit ability. During the Battle of Marineford, Admiral Akainu fought against Luffy, Portgas D. Ace, and several of Whitebeard’s division commanders, but did not dare attempt to go against Shanks in combat, ending the conflict. Shanks also has the skill and power to go up against the other Four Emperors and, in his prime, was strong enough to be one of the only rivals of Dracule Mihawk. He has also mastered all three types of Haki, making him an even more formidable opponent.

Other Important One Piece Characters

Two characters that have a significant connection to Shanks are Kaido and Whitebeard.

Kaido

Kaido is the captain of the Beast Pirates and one of the Four Emperors. He is known as the strongest creature, both for his unbelievable physical strength and near indestructibility. Before the Battle of Marineford, Kaido attempted to stop the Whitebeard Pirates from rescuing Ace, but Shanks and his crew intervened and allowed Whitebeard to pass through. Although the precise nature of the encounter is largely unknown, Shanks was later shown to be unharmed, showing that if there was a battle, he managed to hold the Beast Pirates off easily.

Edward Newgate

Edward Newgate, also known as Whitebeard, is another member of the Four Emperors. Unlike Kaido and Big Mom, however, the relationship between Whitebeard and Shanks is much more neutral. Although they are technically enemies, Shanks has gone so far as to interfere with Kaido’s attempts to stop Whitebeard from reaching Marineford. Furthermore, Shanks has warned Whitebeard of the potential threat the Blackbeard may pose if left unhindered.
