OtapediaMarco One Piece - Figures

The One Piece series began as a humble manga series that was published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997, but quickly gained an incredible amount of popularity in the following years until it received an anime adaptation in 1999, which is still airing today. As of early 2021, the One Piece manga series has over a thousand chapters published, while the anime adaptation has around 950 episodes that have aired. With such a long-running series, it is no surprise that some fans may be overwhelmed by the amount of merchandise that is available to purchase. Even some of the more minor characters in the series are popular enough to get their own figures. One such character is Marco the Phoenix, the former commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. A few of the most popular figures of Marco include the “Ichibansho Figure One Piece Ex Devils Marco”, the “Portrait of Pirates One Piece Limited Edition Ship Doctor Marco”, and the “One Piece Banpresto World Figure Colosseum Special Ver.: Marco the Phoenix”.

About Marco

Marco the Phoenix is the former commander of the first division of the Whitebeard Pirates, prior to Whitebeard’s defeat in the Battle of Marineford. The following is a brief look at his character.

Background

Marco has been a member of the Whitebeard Pirates since their voyage into Wano Country approximately thirty years ago. Here, he meets Kozuki Oden, a samurai desperate to see the outside world. Many years later, Marco gained more influence within his group, eventually becoming the commander of the first division. When Portgas D. Ace joined their crew, Marco quickly befriended him and explained the familial-like bond they all share with Whitebeard. After Whitebeard’s defeat at Marineford, Marco became the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates until they were officially disbanded. Afterward, Marco traveled to Whitebeard’s home village and became a doctor.

Special Abilities

As the right-hand man to Whitebeard, Marco shows that he is incredibly competent in-battle. During the Battle of Marineford, Marco goes up against three Marine admirals, something that would be considered nothing short of suicide for most people. Aside from his unbelievable strength, Marco also has the powers of the Bird-Bird Fruit: Model Phoenix, a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a giant phoenix. While transformed, Marco has the ability to create bright blue flames, which can be used to quickly recover from nearly any injury, hence them sometimes being referred to as the “Blue Flames of Resurrection”.

Other Important One Piece Characters

Two characters that are closely connected to Marco are Whitebeard and Blackbeard. The following is a short summary of their characters.

Edward Newgate

Edward Newgate, also known as Whitebeard, was the former captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and often considered to be the strongest man in the world. Before Roger’s execution, Whitebeard was considered to be one of the few people that rivaled Roger in terms of strength and influence. Whitebeard also has the powers of the Quake-Quake Fruit, which is considered to be one of the most powerful Devil Fruits and allows its user to create earthquakes. Whitebeard’s crew is incredibly loyal to him and many view Whitebeard much like a father.

Marshall D. Teach

Marshall D. Teach, often referred to as Blackbeard, took Whitebeard’s place as one of the Four Emperors after his death. Before he created his own pirate crew, Blackbeard was a member of Whitebeard’s crew. Unknown to the members of Whitebeard’s crew, Blackbeard was searching for a specific Devil Fruit: the Dark-Dark Fruit. Once he found it in the possession of the Whitebeard Pirates, he murdered a fellow crewmate and stole the fruit for himself. With his newfound powers, he aided in Ace’s capture, which led to the Battle of Marineford. Once Whitebeard was defeated, Blackbeard somehow took the Quake-Quake Fruit for himself, making him the only known person to have the powers of two Devil Fruits at once.
