Synopsis

New Kyoto: a city ruled by a king where all superiority is determined through the strength of the Build Divide. There are rumors that anyone who defeats the king in the Build Divide will have any wish granted. And in order to challenge the king, participants must first win battles called Rebuild and complete the “Key.” Led by a mysterious girl named Sakura Banka, Teruhito Kurabe, a young man who vows to defeat the king for a certain reason, throws himself into the Rebuild Battle. With everyone having a wish they want to come true, the battle for New Kyoto is about to begin!

Background

Build Divide is a mixed media project created by Aniplex and Homura Kawamoto. It will consist of a trading card game and a TV anime series. The trading card game is the first of its kind for Aniplex and will be released in October 2021 beginning with two starting decks and a booster pack.

The TV anime, titled Build Divide -#000000 (Code Black)-, is being animated by LIDEN FILMS (Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor, "Deji" Meets Girl, Poco's Udon World) and features Yuki Komada (Blade of the Immortal, Killing Bites, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) as director with Yoriko Tomita (As Miss Beelzebub Likes, Fire Force, Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won't Lose) handling series composition, Shinpei Tomooka (Inukami!, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Sekirei) handling character designs, and Keiji Inai (Armor Shop for Ladies & Gentlemen, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Outbreak Company) and Kenta Higashiohji (iii icecrin, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, Sakura Wars the Animation) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "BANG!!!" by EGOIST, and the ending theme song is "Fukagyakuteki na Inochi no Shоozоo" by MEMAI SIREN. The first cour (half season) of the anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 9, 2021 on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, BS11, and other channels. The second cour is scheduled to premiere in April of next year.

Characters

Teruhito Kurabe (Voiced by: Yuto Uemura)
A young man who has lost most of his memories, with his only remaining memory being that he “defeated the king.” He meets Sakura when he saves her from getting tangled up with thugs. His fighting style is to always go all in. His favorite food is bread. Although he won’t admit it, he seems to have a poor sense of direction. The Ace and Territory he uses is the black “Bloom.”

Sakura Banka (Voiced by: Sayumi Watabe)
A mysterious girl who always wears a scarf. She has a wish that she wants to make come true no matter what and is looking for someone who can participate in the Rebuild Battle in her place. She was rescued by Teruhito when she gets tangled up with thugs on the street, and she teaches him about Build Divide. She likes stars and often hums” Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” The Ace and Territory she uses is the blue “Iola.”

Hiyori Tori (Voiced by: Aoi Koga)
Born in a poor area on the outskirts of New Kyoto, she has been struggling since she was a child and joins the Rebuild Battle to change her circumstances. Despite her painful past, she is a cheerful and energetic girl. She likes historical dramas. The Ace and Territory she uses is the white “Dagrark.”

Kikka (Voiced by: Yu Serizawa)
Much of her is unknown, including her origin. She shows an unusual obsession with Teruhito, but her true intentions are a mystery. The Ace and Territory she uses is the white “Margurea.”

Naomitsu Enjo (Voiced by: Atsushi Tamaru)
A kind young man with an overflowing sense of justice. Concerned about the current situation in New Kyoto, he joins the Rebuild Battle in order to change it. He dislikes bitter food. The Ace and Territory he uses is the red “Lionel.”
