Synopsis

Prince Bojji is the eldest son of the Kingdom of Bosch’s royal family whose parents are giants and is the next in line to become the king. However, he himself is so small and weak that he can’t even wield a dagger properly. To make matters worse, he is also deaf and mute, which makes those around him question whether he is really fit to be the next king. But after a chance encounter with a shadowy creature of the Shadow Clan named Kage with whom he can communicate, the two become friends and his life begins to take a turn for the better!

Background

Ranking of Kings began as a manga series written and illustrated by Sosuke Toka that began serialization on Echoes' user-submitted manga website Manga Hack in May 2017. The series was also picked up by Kadokawa’s Enterbrain and is being published under the Beam Comics imprint. As of August 2021, 11 tankobon volumes have been published. The manga ranked sixth in the “Everyone’s Choice TSUTAYA Comic Award 2019” and has sold more than 1.3 million copies.

An anime adaptation was announced on Twitter in December 2019. It is being produced by Wit Studio, which is known for such hits as Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and Vinland Saga, and features Yousuke Hatta as director, with Taku Kishimoto handling series composition, Atsuko Nozaki handling character designs, Masaki Kawake handling sub-character designs, and MAYUKO composing the music. King Gnu is performing the opening theme song, “BOY.” The anime will premiere in Japan in October 2021 as part of Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block.
