Synopsis

Seiichi Hiiragi is a high school student who is constantly bullied, until one day when he and his entire class are suddenly transported to another world filled with swords and magic! There, hungry and alone, he finds and eats a strange fruit which turns out to be an Evolution Fruit, and his life is forever changed!

Background

The Evolution Fruit: Conquering Life Unknowingly began as a light novel series written by Miku and illustrated by U35 that was first published on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro beginning in January 2014. The novel was later picked up by Futabasha, who began publishing the series under their Monster Bunko imprint in September of that year. As of February 2021, 12 volumes have been published.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Sorano began serialization on Futabasha’s digital publication Web Comic Action in September 2017 and is published under the Monster Comics imprint with six collected tankobon volumes released as of January 2021.

An anime adaptation was announced in January 2021. It is being animated by Hotline (A Certain Scientific Railgun T, Kemono Jihen) and features Yoshiaki Okumura (Antique Bakery, Bakkyuu HIT! Crash Bedaman) as director, with Gigaemon Ichikawa (Duel Masters, GeGeGe no Kitaro) handling series composition and scripts, Minami Eda adapting U35’s original character designs for animation, and Hifumi, Inc. (Escha Chron, Release the Spyce) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Evolution" by Yoshino Nanjo, and the ending theme song is "Moonlight Walk" by Poppin' Party. The anime will premiere in Japan in October 2021 on TV Tokyo and BS-TV Tokyo.

Characters

Seiichi Hiiragi (Voiced by: Hiro Shimono)
A high school student who was summoned from another world. He used to be bullied for being fat and ugly before traveling to another world by chance. He ends up eating the Evolution Fruit and gains monster-class abilities.

Saria (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
A level 700 Kaiser Kong. She suddenly appears before Seiichi in the Forest of Endless Grief. She at first sees him as an enemy and attacks, but after he is able to dodge her attacks she begins to fall in love with him.

Artoria Gremm (Voiced by: Marina Inoue)
A beautiful A-class adventurer known as “Artoria the Calamity.” At the guild, she oversees Seiichi and Saria’s exams. Due to being cursed, calamity seems to befall everyone who comes into contact with her.

Gassle Kroot (Voiced by: Tetsu Inada)
The guildmaster of the adventurer’s guild in the royal city of Telbert. He is a large, muscular man who loves to wear Speedos. He has a booming voice and burly body, and is quite the meathead. His trademark is striking poses that show off his muscles.

Eris McClain (Voiced by: Yuka Nishio)
A receptionist at the adventurer’s guild in the royal city of Telbert. Despite her innocent and cute appearance, she’s a bit of a sadist. When Seiichi and Saria join the guild, she kindly teaches them a variety of things.

Lulune (Voiced by: Rimi Nishimoto)
A donkey with a big appetite whom Seiichi meets. She only allows those she approves of to touch her, but after submitting to Seiichi in battle, she joins him and enters the King’s Cup.

Karen Kannazuki (Voiced by: Yoshino Nanjo)
A high school girl who is Seiichi’s childhood friend and the former student council president. She was forced to wear a Bracelet of Slavery by the Kaiser Empire and is attending the Barbador Magic Academy. She is concerned about Seiichi’s disappearance.

Louise Balze (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
A swordswoman who serves as the leader of the knights of the Kingdom of Winberg. She is also known as the “Sword Knight.” After challenging Seiichi to a match and losing easily, she comes to admire him as a master.

Hitsuji-san (Voiced by: Satomi Arai)
The manager of the labyrinth in the other world where Seiichi was summoned. He is a sheep who wears a tailsuit and silk hat, walks upright on two legs, and can speak. He tells others about their current status and delivers useful items.

Origa Calmeria (Voiced by: Yurika Kubo)
A black cat beast girl who infiltrated the kingdom in an attempt to assassinate King Winberg. She is forced to wear a Collar of Slavery by the Kaiser Empire.
