Synopsis

Manaka Mizusawa is a junior high school student from Nikko City who gets her first taste of ice hockey at a hands-on class for the local girls’ ice hockey team Dream Monkeys together with her younger sister Ayaka and her childhood friends Kaoruko and Mami. They all have so much fun that they are invited by the team’s coach Yoko to join the team. Meanwhile, a star player named Yu comes to Nikko after having quit her team and ice hockey to live with her grandmother. Though she vows to never again step foot into the rink, Manaka, Yoko, and the others are able to convince her to join the team. Through practice and training camps, the girls begin to grow and become a true team. But will these rookies stand a chance as they head into tournament season? The story of their growth through sweat and tears begins!

Background

PuraOre! Pride of Orange is a mixed-media project being created by CyberAgent and EXNOA (DMM Games). The project will include a mobile game and a TV anime.

The mobile game, titled PuraOre! Smile Princess, is being developed by EXNOA and will be released in 2021. Its theme song is “Glorious Day” written by Konomi Suzuki and composed by Ryosuke Imai and Tasuku Maeda.

The TV anime, which is the first ever anime about girls’ ice hockey, was announced in December 2020 and is being animated by C2C. The series is being directed by Takebumi Anzai with Touko Machida handling series composition, Kii Tanaka handling character designs for animation, and MONACA and Yohei Kisara composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Fai-O Fight!" sung by members of the voice cast as Team PuraOre!, and the ending theme song is "Orange" by May'n. The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 6, 2021 on Tokyo MX and other channels.

Nikko Dream Monkeys

Manaka Mizusawa (Voiced by: Riku Masuda)
The left winger of the Newcomer Set. She is a 15-year-old third-year student at Kinugawa Junior High School. She is cheerful, positive, and optimistic. Rather than thinking things through carefully, she is the type to instead act on a hunch. She is also an emotional crybaby.

Riko Saginuma (Voiced by: Saika Kitamori)
The center forward and ace member of the Newcomer Set. She is a 15-year-old third-year student at Kirifuri Junior High School. She is a positive, sisterly, and passionate personality. She is very athletic and was a tomboy as a child. She hates to lose and is willing to put in any amount of effort. She has played ice hockey once during her childhood.

Yu Kiyose (Voiced by: Satomi Hongo)
The 15-year-old right winger of the Newcomer Set. She is a perfectionist with a serious personality, but she is actually sensitive and easily hurt. She gets fed up with Manaka’s optimism, but she secretly envies her. She is indifferent to anything other than ice hockey and is clueless about the world. She is able to pull off god-like plays in a pinch and is trusted by her teammates.

Ayaka Mizusawa (Voiced by: Mayu Sagara)
A 14-year-old second-year student at Kinugawa Junior High School and the left defenseman of the Newcomer Set. She is Manaka’s younger sister. She has a complex about her small size and lack of physical strength. She is a hard worker who is determined to catch up to her sister Manaka and her friends. She is able to take action during a crisis and is the mascot of the team.

Naomi Takagi (Voiced by: Asuka Shiori)
A 15-year-old third-year student at Kirifuri Junior High School and the right defenseman of the Newcomer Set. She is a smart girl with excellent grades and a high IQ. Due to being shy and withdrawn, it takes time to get to know her. She doesn’t talk much, but she has a sharp sense of humor. She is encouraged by Riko to join the team.

Kaoruko Yanagida (Voiced by: Yurika Moriyama)
A 15-year-old third-year student at Kinugawa Junior High School and the goaltender of the Newcomer Set. She is the only daughter of a strawberry farmer, a specialty crop of Nikko. She is like the team’s mother. She is sensible, patient, and always has a smile on her face. She is also in charge of snacks for everyone. She has a gentle personality mixed with an inner strength and loves her friends more than anyone else. Her love of hot springs is unparalleled.

The left winger of the Senior Set.

Juri Kikuchi (Voiced by: Ruriko Aoki)
The center forward of the Senior Set.

Shino Ukita (Voiced by: Aina Suzuki)
The right winger of the Senior Set.

Runa Hirano (Voiced by: Eriko Matsui)
The left defesnenman and goaltender of the Senior Set.

The goaltender of the Senior Set.

Yoko Matsunaga (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)
A former member of Japan’s national women’s ice hockey team and the current manager of the Nikko Dream Monkeys. Though her personality is basic, she is a schemer who will use anything and everything at her disposal to elevate the popularity of ice hockey. She worries about the future of ice hockey and is planning to start a revolution to bring new entertaining elements to the sport.

Sou Sato (Voiced by: Yoshiaki Hasegawa)
Yoko’s assistant. He is always given impossible tasks from Yoko but is the person who knows her best. When he was a student, he was in theater and called himself the “Jim Carrey of Kirifuri.”

Mami Ono (Voiced by: Yoshino Aoyama)
A 15-year-old third-year student at Kinugawa Junior High School and the left winger of the Ice Rabbits. She is Manaka’s childhood friend and best friend. She is always kind and supports Manaka and her friends behind the scenes. Though quiet and not very good at fast ice hockey, she loves embroidery, which is a special skill of hers.
