Synopsis

The year is 2019, and Japan is on the verge of entering a new era. But then, a rift to another dimension suddenly appears in the sky. It connects to the Japan of another world called “Shinkoku Nippon” which continues to live in the militaristic Showa era, and soon they begin invading the Japan of this world, “Genkoku Nippon,” making use of their gas weapon “Phantom Fog” that nullifies our current weapons and the giant humanoid weapon Garan. Before long, they seize control of the government and conquer the country. In this world, the Reiwa era never arrives…

Ten years later, Japan has been reborn as a vassal state of Shinkoku Nippon, and in the midst of strict censorship, the once thriving subcultures of anime, manga, games, and idols have completely died out. But even still, otaku live on, and a group has risen up to protect the subcultures against the tyrannical government. The name of this secret group is Arahabaki...

Background

Rumble Garanndoll is an original TV anime being produced by EGG FIRM (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Sword Art Online: Alicization) and animated by Lerche (Idoly Pride, Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls, Re:␣Hamatora). It is being directed by Masaomi Ando (Mini Hama: Minimum Hamatora, Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, School-Live!) with Makoto Uezu (Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Ars Nova, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Yuki Yuna Is a Hero) penning the script, and Keiko Kurosawa (Astra Lost in Space, Konohana Kitan, Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle) adapting Akio Watanabe’s original character designs for animation. The anime’s opening theme song is “Fever Dreamer” by Mia REGINA, and the ending theme song is “Reverse-Rebirth” by Aina Suzuki. The anime will premiere in Japan in October 2021.

Characters

Hosomichi Kudo (Voiced by: Seiichiro Yamashita)
A young boy who is burdened with a huge debt from his parents and lives a solitary life while trying to pay it back. He works as a host for a shady business in Kabukicho. As a host, he is number 1 in popularity.

Rin Akagi (Voiced by: Ai Fairouz)
She likes anime and tokusatsu shows, especially the hero anime Kaitei Zavan. Due to admiring heroes, she values justice and unity.

Yuki Aoba (Voiced by: Aina Suzuki)
An idol who is a member of the underground idol unit Rabbit Foot. She has a calculating, two-sided personality.

Misa Kuroki (Voiced by: Shiori Izawa)
A young girl who loves retro games. She is well-versed in digital gadgets and is a genius hacker with the title of “Wordnya.”
