Alternate Title

ゲッターロボ アーク

Synopsis

Ten years have passed since the disappearance of Ryoma Nagare, Go Ichimonji, and Messiah Tyr on Mars, and Hayato Jin has become the new director of the Saotome Institute which trains pilots to protect humanity from extraterrestrial enemies. In the wake of an invasion by an insect-like alien race from the Andromeda Flow Country, a new Getter unit called Getter Robo Arc has been developed to be humanity’s last hope. But the situation is made more complicated when a boy named Takuma Nagare, who happens to be Ryoma’s son, appears before Hayato.

Background

Getter Robo Arc is a manga series created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa that was first serialized in Futabasha’s Super Robot Magazine from 2001 to 2005 and has been released in three tankobon volumes. The manga serves as the third installment of the Getter Robo series after Getter Robo Go. Due to Ishikawa’s death in November 2006, the story remains unfinished. A republished edition of the manga was released by Futabasha in 2007, and a limited edition was later released in 2016.

An anime adaptation was announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment in November 2020. It is being animated by Bee Media and features Jun Kawagoe as director with Tadashi Hayakawa handling series composition and scripts, Hideyuki Motohashi handling the character designs, Toshiyuki Horii handling the robot designs, and Shiho Terada and Yoshichika Kuriyama composing the music. The opening theme song is "Bloodlines: Unmei no Ketto" by JAM Project. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 4, 2021 on AT-X and Tokyo MX.

Characters

Takuma Nagare (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
The 19-year-old pilot of the Getter Arc. He is quick to fight but can distinguish between right and wrong even in a lawless environment. He likes to eat convenience store onigiri. He is the son of Ryoma Nagare, and perhaps because of this, he was born with unparalleled healing abilities. Looking to get revenge for his mother, he visits the Saotome Institute to find clues, and his fateful encounter with Getter begins.

Sho Kamui (Voiced by: Arimaro Mukaino)
The 19-year-old pilot of the Getter Kirik. Because of his background, he looks different than ordinary humans and is much stronger. Hayato Jin took care of him from a young age and raised him to be a Getter Robo pilot.

Baku Yamagishi (Voiced by: Kazuhiro Sunseki)
The 22-year-old pilot of the Getter Kahn. He saved Takuma as a child and has been traveling with him ever since. He has precognitive abilities, though they aren’t as good as his brother’s.

Hayato Jin (Voiced by: Naoya Uchida)
A member of the first generation Getter Team. After Dr. Saotome’s death, he became the director of the Saotome Institute and continues to research the Getter line. He is also the commander of the Getter D2 unit that protects humanity from unknown enemies that appear out of nowhere.

Mecha

Getter Arc
The last Getter Robo designed by Dr. Saotome for the future of mankind. After Dr. Saotome's death, Hayato Jin, who took over as director of the Saotome Institute, completed it with the wish that it would become the hope of mankind. It is highly stable, and surpasses the previous Getter Robos in terms of energy efficiency and fighting ability. It is piloted by Takuma Nagare.

Getter Kirik
A high-speed Getter Robo piloted by Sho Kamui. Depending on the situation, the left or right arm can be transformed into a drill, making it specialized for swift attacks.

Getter Kahn
A monstrously powerful Getter Robo piloted by Baku Yamagishi. It has a two-stage transformation function that allows it to further transform from its conventional robot form into a giant tire-shaped Khan Rover. It specializes in operation under high pressure, such as in the deep sea.

Getter D2
A mass-produced Getter Robo owned by the Saotome Institute. Its form is similar to that of the Getter Dragon, but its specifications have been suppressed due to the inability of the current pilots to keep up. Therefore, in addition to its built-in weapons, the robot's combat capabilities are reinforced with a huge machine gun and a huge assault rifle that it holds directly in its hands.
