Synopsis

Uramichi Omota is an athletic 31 year old in charge of the physical education program Maman to Together, on which he brings smiles to kids’ faces with his cheerful personality and refreshing smile as “Uramichi Oniisan.” However, under his cheerful facade, he is actually a bit emotionally unstable.

Background

Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan began as a comedy manga by Gaku Kuze that has been serialized in Ichijinsha’s Comic POOL digital manga magazine since May 2017. As of May 2020, five tankobon volumes have been published. The manga is licensed in North America by Kodansha USA.

An anime adaptation was first announced in a promo video for the fourth volume of the manga in October 2019. It is being animated by Studio Blanc and features Nobuyoshi Nagayama (Are You Lost?, Happy Sugar Life, Smile Down the Runway) as director with Touko Machida (Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Harukana Receive) handling series composition, Mizuki Takahashi (Masamune-kun's Revenge, My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, The Ones Within) and Yusuke Shibata (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima, Inazuma Eleven GO) handling character designs, and Kei Haneoka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Negima!?, Owarimonogatari) composing the music. The opening theme song is “ABC Taiso” by Iketeru Oneesan and Utano Oniisan, and the ending theme song is “Dream on” by Mamoru Miyano. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 5, 2021 on TV Tokyo.

Characters

Uramichi Omota (Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya)
The 31-year-old older brother of the Maman to Together physical education program. Everyone calls him “Uramichi Oniisan.” He is a former gymnast with a refreshing smile who is actually a bit emotionally unstable despite his cheerful demeanor. He talks to kids about the sorrows of adulthood. His hobby is weight training.

Tobikichi Usahara (Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita)
A 28 year old and the Maman to Together mascot Usao-kun. He is afraid of Uramichi, who teases him and finds out whenever he talks behind his back. He is outgoing and extroverted, and wants to become popular and funny.

Mitsuo Kumatani (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
A 28 year old and the Maman to Together mascot Kumao-kun. The children rely on him, and so does the broke Tobikichi. He is quiet, calm, and has a broad perspective, though he doesn’t make the most of it.

Iketeru Daga (Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano)
The 27-year-old singing brother of Maman to Together. His nickname is “Iketeru Oniisan.” He is a former musical actor with excellent singing ability and looks. However, he loves low-brow jokes and can’t read between the lines, the room, or even a clock.

Utano Tadano (Voiced by: Nana Mizuki)
The 32-year-old singing sister of Maman to Together. Her nickname is “Utano Oneesan.” She is a graduate of an elite music college, but due to bad luck and bad timing, she has been working as an idol singer, enka singer, and a jazz singer. She has been living with her comedian boyfriend for six years.

Hanbee Kikaku (Voiced by: Ryohei Kimura)
A 24-year-old member of the sales department at MHK Enterprise who is in charge of developing goods. He is a former band member with long hair and several piercings. At first glance, he appears to be emotionally unstable, but he is serious about his work.

Saito Uebu (Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura)
A 24-year-old member of the digital planning department of MHK Enterprise. He is also classmates with Hanbee. He exudes a cold aura and tends to avoid interacting with others. He is an otaku who loves 2D anime and often disappears to watch anime when he should be working.

Matahiko Nekota (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
The 28-year-old manager of the bar Cat Kick. He was Uramichi’s junior in college and lived in the same dorm as Mitsuo and Tobikichi. He has a soft and friendly personality but is twice divorced. He works hard to pay child support.
