Synopsis

Sarutorine “Sally” Aldike is the bright and cheerful princess of the Kingdom of Aldarake who dreams of leaving the stuffy walls of her tiny castle to explore the outside world as an adventurer. But the world is a dangerous place filled with monsters and demons, which soon arrive on her doorstep, threatening the lives of everyone in the kingdom. Sally and the people of the kingdom are saved by a lone traveler named Mikoto who calls himself a demon hunter and slays demons with the use of his mysterious “Peach Eye.” Though well aware of the dangers that await her, Sally decides to venture out on a journey of her own as she follows in Mikoto’s footsteps.

Background

Peach Boy Riverside is a manga series written and illustrated by Coolkyoushinja that has been serialized on Neetsha’s webcomic site Weekly Young VIP since January 2008. A remake version written by Coolkyoushinja and illustrated by Johanne has been serialized in Kodansha’s shonen manga magazine Shonen Magazine R and on the manga website and app Magazine Pocket since August 2015. As of February 2021, nine collected tankobon volumes have been published. The manga is licensed for English release in North America by Kodansha USA, and the second English volume will be published in August 2021.

An anime adaptation of the remake manga was announced in August 2020. It is being produced by Asahi Production and features Shigeru Ueda as director with Keiichiro Ochi handling series composition, Masato Kato and Satomi Kurita handling character designs, and Takaaki Nakahashi composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Dark spiral journey” by Q-MHz feat. Yuko Suzuhana, and the ending theme song is “Yoru wo Koeru Ashioto” by Mitei no Hanashi. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 1, 2021 on Tokyo MX and BS NTV.

Characters

Sarutorine Aldike/Sally (Voiced by: Haruka Shiraishi)
The princess of the Kingdom of Aldarake. After meeting Mikoto, she seizes the opportunity to travel to the outside world. She awakens to her Peach powers after a certain incident and is endowed with the power to fight against demons.

Mikoto Kibitsu (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)
A young man with Peach powers who is called “Demon Hunter.” He holds a strong hatred of demons and travels all over the world with his companion Dog to annihilate the demons.

Frau (Voiced by: M.A.O)
A genderless rabbit person who wears a sailor schoolgirl uniform. They are known to the witch Winnie, and much about them is a mystery, including their appearance. They met Sally when they were stranded and became travel companions.

Hawthorn Grattor (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
The Regimental Commander of the Royal Knights for the Rimdarl Kingdom and a skilled swordsman with a strong sense of justice. He used to perceive demi-humans as demons, but after meeting Sally and Frau he gradually comes to understand the different races.

Carrot (Voiced by: Megumi Toda)
A high-level demon previously known as Meki. She lost her powers when her horn was broken off during a battle with Mikoto. The name “Carrot” was given to her by Frau.

Dog (Voiced by: Jiro Saito)
A talking dog who accompanies Mikoto. He worries about Mikoto and often chastises him for his instability. In truth, he is a dog from a famous story.

Millia (Voiced by: Mayu Mineda)
A former demon who gave herself the name “Kamioni.” She was a mid-level demon who was able to manipulate her hair. She has the appearance of a little sister and refers to herself in a masculine tone.

Winnie (Voiced by: Haruka Tomatsu)
A witch who lives in the western forest and runs a tavern. Despite her youthful appearance, she is actually hundreds of years old. She used to be closely connected to Hawthorn’s ancestor long ago.

Sumeragi (Voiced by: Daisuke Hirakawa)
A high-level demon who takes the appearance of a priest. He takes notice of Sally when she awakens to her Peach power and seems to appear out of thin air. His true intentions are unknown.

Todoroki (Voiced by: Misato Murai)
A high-level demon who can control lightning. He wears a hat that he received from Meki which contains lightning. He loves Meki.

Jucerino (Voiced by: Yurika Kubo)
A demon god who creates many “masked demons.” Although she looks like a young girl, she is a member of the demon gods and has overwhelming power.

Atra (Voiced by: Yuko Suzuhana)
An angel who lives in heaven. She is acquainted with Frau.
