Synopsis

Yusuke Yotsuya is an aloof and logical third-year middle schooler whose world is turned upside down when he is suddenly transported to a fantasy world along with fellow classmates Iu Shindo and Kusue Hakozaki. They immediately encounter a man named the Game Master who gives them a quest and bestows upon them classes: Magician for Shindo, Warrior for Hakozaki, and for Yusuke...Farmer?! Now the three of them will have to work together if they want to survive in this hectic world filled with monsters. Will Yusuke be able to overcome his lone wolf tendencies and emotionless demeanor to protect his companions and become a hero who wins the game?

Background

I'm Standing on a Million Lives is a fantasy manga series written by Naoki Yamakawa and illustrated by Akinari Nao that has been serialized in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine since June 2016. As of December 2020, it has been published in 11 collected tankobon volumes. The manga is licensed for English release in North America by Kodansha USA. The 11th volume of the English manga will be released in September 2021.

The first season of the anime adaptation was announced in March 2020 and aired from October to December 2020, spanning 12 episodes. It was available to stream outside of Asia through Crunchyroll.

The second season of the anime adaptation was announced in December 2020 shortly after the finale of the first season aired. It is once again being produced by Maho Films and features Kumiko Habara (BanG Dream!, Inu X Boku Secret Service) as director, Takao Yoshioka (Boarding School Juliet, Elfen Lied) as series composer, Eri Kojima (Girls und Panzer, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) and Toshihide Masudate (Blood Shadow, In Another World With My Smartphone) as the main character designers, and Ken Ito (Handa-kun, Hina Logic - from Luck & Logic) as the music producer. The anime’s opening theme song is "Baddest" by Vtuber Kaede Higuchi, and the ending theme song is "Subversive" by Kanako Takatsuki. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 2, 2021 on Tokyo MX, MBS, and BS11.

Characters

Yusuke Yotsuya (Voiced by: Yuto Uemura)
Yusuke is a third-year middle school student and the protagonist of the series. He is aloof, very rational, and selfish. Though he acts friendly around others, he prefers to be alone and shows a disinterest in life and having relationships with others. He is transported to a fantasy world together with his classmates Iu and Kusue.

Iu Shindo (Voiced by: Risa Kubota)
Iu is Yusuke’s classmate and the first sent to the fantasy world. She is popular and beautiful and is the exact opposite of Yusuke in class. She was even scouted as a model due to her good looks.

Kusue Hakozaki (Voiced by: Azumi Waki)
Kusue is Yusuke’s classmate and the second one sent to the fantasy world. She has a weak constitution due to a chronic disease and is very self-conscious. She often fights with Shindo. Her dream is to go to university and study medicine. Though physically weak, she is strong-willed and courageous.

Yuka Tokitate (Voiced by: Makoto Koichi)
Yuka is a nerdy otaku girl who is considered to be weird by her classmates. She can be opinionated as well, which lands her in hot water from time to time.

Kahabell (Voiced by: Chiwa Saito)
Kahabell is a female knight in the city-state of Coltner. She joined the knighthood because she likes to cut living flesh.

Game Master (Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto, Takeshi Kusao, Toshio Furukawa, Genichiro Tenryu, Kozo Shioya, Sho Hayami, Ryo Horikawa, Ryusei Nakao, Sumire Morohoshi, Tetsu Inada)
A mysterious being who claims to be from the future and the one who transported Yusuke and the others to the fantasy world. He gives the players quests and for completing them will answer one of their questions. He has a particular way of speaking.

Keita Torii (Voiced by: Toshiyuki Toyonaga)
The fifth player who was saved in the real world by Yusuke and is transported to the fantasy world. His job class is spear warrior. He is a self-professed middle school dropout and is the oldest member of the party. Though he isn’t good at thinking, he is cheerful and friendly and is a strong fighter.

Yana (Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu)
A ritual dancer on Giphon Island. She is 27 years old and continues to work as a shrine maiden since her successor was eaten by orcs. She is worried about becoming too old and no longer being a suitable age to marry.

Aoiu (Voiced by: Aoi Yuki)
A ritual dancer like Yana. At first, she misunderstands Yusuke and the others and thinks they are mercenaries. She has a self-serving personality and turns her back on them once she realizes her mistake. She is especially close to Yana, who is the same age as her.

Cantil (Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki)
A mercenary hired by the people of Giphon Island to defeat the orcs. He is the only one who has fought against the orcs before, and his achievements and experience make him the leader of the mercenaries.
