Synopsis
The story takes place nearly a decade after the end of a long and brutal war. In this world, fairies naturally inhabit the bodies of animals. However, humankind learned to surgically remove the organs of these animals and insert them into a human, allowing that person some degree of control in summoning the fairy. The fairy and its powers were then used as weapons of war by these human “fairy soldiers.”
When the war was over, the fairy soldiers had to reintegrate into society. Currently, some are criminals, terrorists, or government officials. With the nation-state still in disarray from the war, illegal activity related to fairy use is now rampant. A peacekeeping organization named “Dorothea” was formed to investigate and tackle these crimes. One of Dorothea’s agents, Marlya Noel, is a special individual who can summon fairies to help her without having gone through any organ implant procedure. Fairy gone follows Marlya’s personal mission to stop her childhood friend from committing a grievous mistake.
Background
Fairy gone is an original anime television series by P.A. Works being directed by Kenichi Suzuki (Cells at Work!, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Drifters) and written by Ao Jumonji. The first half of the anime (episodes 1-12) was broadcast beginning in April 2019, and the second half (episodes 13-24) will premiere in October 2019. Funimation will once again have episodes available to stream as they air in Japan. [K]NoW_NAME is returning to perform the second half’s opening theme song, "STILL STANDING."
Characters
Marlya Noel (Voiced by: Kana Ichinose)
The main heroine of the story. She has the ability to summon and control fairies without needing an organ transplant. As a child, her entire village was a casualty of the war. Only she and her friend Veronica survived. She joined Dorothea in order to stop Veronica, who has become an assassin, from seeking revenge. Marlya has short brown hair and regularly wears her Dorothea uniform. Her fairy is Ashclad. Ashclad is pictured as a female with features of a tree. Her hand can turn so hot that it burns what it touches to ash.
Veronica Thorn (Voiced by: Ayaka Fukuhara)
Marlya’s childhood friend and the only other survivor of their village. She wants to kill Ray Dorn for burning down their village. Veronica has long blonde hair and wears a sleek black and brown outfit, most likely functional for assassinations. Like Marlya, she can control fairies without an organ transplant. Her fairy is Bloody Daughter, who is pictured as having long gray hair with a face covered by a shroud. Bloody Daughter can enter into the wounds of enemies that Veronica makes, and kill them from the inside.
Free Underbar (Voiced by: Tomoaki Maeno)
The commander of Unit 1 in Dororthea who encouraged Marlya to join. He has short brown hair with scruff on his chin and usually wears the Dorothea uniform. His fairy is Red Hood, a wolfman-like fairy with exceptional agility and deadly fangs and claws.
Ulfran Low (Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya)
Ulfran is a former Fairy Soldier of the war who used to fight alongside Free. He is now a terrorist. He has long blonde hair and wears a brown hooded long coat. Ulfran’s fairy is Fitcher. Fitcher is depicted as having features of a tree and six arms with blades that it uses to slice up enemies.
Clara Kisenaria Voiced by: Ayaka Suwa)
Clara is an agent of Dorothea. She has long brown hair and round glasses. Her fairy looks like a frog and specializes in reconnaissance with its giant eyeballs.
Serge Tovah (Voiced by: Yoshiki Nakajima)
Serge is an agent of Dorothea partnered with Clara. He has wild light brown hair and is an expert sniper. His fairy is also a sniper type. It has long arms and legs as well as a unique three-pronged tail.
Nein Auraa (Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki)
Nein was one of the heroes of the war known as the Seven Knights. She has very short wild brown hair and wears the Dorothea uniform. Not much is known about her fairy.
Damian Carme (Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu)
A fairy scholar that works with Veronica. He wears a brown coat and has brown hair and a beard like Jesus.
Marco Bellwood (Voiced by: Hochu Otsuka)
He is considered the first fairy scholar and works in the government. He has short white hair and looks to be of considerable age. Marco wears a long gray robe. He assists Dorothea.
Ray Dorn (Voiced by: Eizou Tsuda)
Ray was a general during the war and one the Seven Knights. He burned down Marlya’s and Veronica’s village. He has gray hair and a beard and wears a long orange and black coat. Not much is known about the fairy he possesses.
Lily Heineman (Voiced by: Atsumi Tanezaki)
The leader of Unit 3 in Dorothea. She keeps her hair in a ponytail. While she doesn’t have a fairy, she is an excellent commander.
Robert Chase (Voiced by: Koji Okino)
Robert Chase is a Dorothea agent from Unit 1 who specializes in interrogation and investigation. He has short black hair and glasses.
Oz Maher (Voiced by: Yasuhiro Mamiya)
A Dorothea agent who doesn’t speak much. He is pictured as a huge bald man. Not much is known about his fairy.
Griff Mercer (Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda)
The right-hand man of Marco Bellwood, Griff is also a fairy scholar who wears a gray robe. He has short blonde hair.
Cain Distaroru (Voiced by: Mugihito)
An old friend of Damian Carme’s father. He is an older man who walks with a cane.
Axel Rabu (Voiced by: Shinji Kawada)
A freelance agent in the mafia. Axel is considered arrogant. He has a fairy but not much has been revealed about it.
Biivii Risukaa (Voiced by: Hisao Egawa)
Biivii is a legendary fairy soldier from the war and one of the Seven Knights. He wears a long green coat and has a scar on his face. Details about his fairy are unknown. Even though the war is over, he still wants to fight.
Sophie (Voiced by: Shizuka Ito)
Sophie is Biivii’s subordinate. She has short blonde hair and wears a 3/4ths coat. Sophie is an excellent sniper and close range combatant.
Jet Glaive (Voiced by: Hiroki Tochi)
A fairy soldier and one of the Seven Knights. He wears a long read coat buttoned up.
Ewan Breeze (Voiced by: Kenji Nomura)
One of the Seven Knights and a fairy soldier. Not much is known about his fairy. He has a gray coat and an artificial arm.
